Just got my hands on the new Advanced Turbo Systems 3rd Gen production exhaust manifold today. Wow, very nice and well made. It uses the factory bolts, has one ball/socket joint for expansion/contraction, and has a pyro probe boss with a dimple in it to help start the drill bit. the OEM manifold has sharp bends and apparent restrictions for #4 and 5 ports especially. ATS has improved the design greatly, while retaining the arrangement that ports 1,2,3 go to the front outlet, and 4,5,6 go to the rear outlet at the turbo flange.

ATS

Joe, I have a 2001 and got the ATS manifold. I had HDM48 port and polish and port matchand was suprised how bad the casting was. Dave took out 3/16th's of metal on the manifold to match them up. BTW Dave did a great job:D

I have always found the ATS inlets to be at least as big as the head ports. The outlets are smaller, but bigger than stock. I found no reason to hog them out to gasket size, since the turbo housing is smaller than gasket size as well--about like the manifold outlet size.

Early 12 valve ATS manifolds could use some porting at the inlets (head end) but the newer ones are OK as supplied.

Overall I have found the ATS manifolds to be cast very well and the bolt holes are well centered in the castings.

Joe where have you been???

Joe where have you been? That ATS manifold was at May Madness in the Dyno room, and believe it's on Larwence's truck!! :D     Oo.

Hey, Steve, guess who took it to the dyno room and wrangled that prototype manfold for Lawrence? This thread was started because the production versions are now available, and incorporate the pyro probe boss. At the time of May Madness, only two manifolds existed. I thought I did pretty well getting one of them to stay in Las Vegas Oo.

Joe ripped off???

Joe... you did say "wrangle"  Up here in Utah we call it "ripped -off". .  :D

Steve

P. S. Please bring old "sickley" this weekend at Edge's Dyno Day. Would like to see what she's can do in them hills up here!!Oo. Oo.

Other engine parameters, such as the HY35 turbo, have major say in egt. Looking at both manifolds, I can see where the ATS improves flow. . . that is, if the turbo will allow the gas to get past it

I suspect the manifold is only one part of the needed reconfiguration for high hp.

The cost the same as the earlier ones. After seeing 24 valve manifolds crack, that is one reason to change. Also it will even up the flow on #4 and 5 to what the other ports have.

I'm now running the new ATS manifold for almost 2 weeks and think it's great. Bolted to it is a DD turbo and it seems to be a great combination. It has a nice big rig turbo sound. Only thing bad I've noticed is the stock heat shield doesn't quite fit over the ATS. I fit mine over it but it turned brown in a spot where it touches on the top of the manifold. Mine didn't have any bosses for drilling the EGT probe either but I'm not complaining. Overall I think the ATS is a great product.
