Some threads have intimated that we would see more power increases from an ATS manifold than we would from a 4" exhaust. Is this true? I'd eventually like to add both to my H. O. , but only have funds for one modification right now. Thanks for your input.

Man, I thought about posting about this manifold last week, and just didn't do it. I'm glad you did, as I'd like to see some input regarding the manifold. I don't think you would see any performance increase by just adding the manifold alone. I THINK it's only going to help you out when you change out other parts like with a bigger turbine, and/or a sewer pipe exhaust... I think it will allow THEM to perform better... That's strictly speculation on my part from what I have read around here regarding the manifold. I'm pretty sure it's a must have once you reach a certain point... That point is after about $10k of mods I think.

My . 02 is to snatch up a nice 4" exhaust. Like the Hog exhaust for example <$550, and all t304 stainless. Enjoy MPG increases, reduced EGT's, and a pleasing sound.

I have very limited funds myself, so I know where you're coming from. ;)

I've seen the 305 hp get 25 hp on the dyno from the ATS manifold and a bigger turbo. Looking at the manifold you can see the ports for #4 and 5 could be better, and pushing 300 hp through a 9 cm2 housing can't be optimum either. You already have 3. 5" exhaust (unless you have the Cal. 235 hp engine). That 100 pound muffler can't be ideal, but it is quiet.

As soon as you throw a box on an HO I think the ATS would be worth your $$, at least in terms of allowing better, more balanced flow and reducing EGTs. I'm certainly planning to get one when I can afford it.

If you want the best bang for your bucks now I would either do the ATS or a turbo, but like Joe says lose the muffler. I'm running a Piersified stock turbo which gives a noticeable improvement over stock in terms of EGTs and upper end power and it's less $$ than an ATS manifold or 4" exhaust system to send one in to have it upgraded.

Piersified Turbo?

Vaughn, forgive my ignorance, but is Piers modifying a stock turbo expressly for the reduction of EGT? High altitude is killing us when we tow the 5ers, and a box is outa the question. We can hit 1350*-1400* real easy with a stock motor. I put a BHAF and a straight thru 4" muff on and it helped, but still can hit the ceiling on EGT. Give a hollar. Ron:{

nobody has addressed the best thing of the ATS manifold... prevention of cracking manifolds due to high EGT... . The slip joint relieves the stress on it when hot.

I drive a Volvo truck interstate with the N-14 Cummins and it has the same type of 3 piece manifold like for the 2nd gen I have,... the same manifold style for it. ... The one piece is DC's way of saving a buck... thats it... Mine didn't crack, I just Junked it and got the ATS manifold. No problems at all...

Is the ATS manifold pre-tapped for a pre-turbo pyro probe? If it is not, is there any problem drilling and tapping it?

Silver03, I to would like a PM about the details of what you have.

not pre-tapped but there is a boss provided on the manifold so you know exactly where to drill. an ATS dealer told me that (I don't have the product).

Yes, there is a boss for drilling and tapping for pyro, have my manifold but have not installed yet, contemplating doing new turbo at same time!!

i am using a friends login, still waiting for mine. i still have three manifolds, email me at -- email address removed -- if you are interested. this is a great deal for an exhaust manifold, don't understand why no one is interested. there $460 new, make me an offer.

this is not true. there are 3 restrictions in your exhaust.

1. the turbine

2. the stock cattle-tank muffler

3. the manifold

the manifold is the least restrictive of the three = least likely to give any power/efficiency gains with its elimination

get rid of the exhaust first

if you are limited in funds, then at LEAST get rid of the muffler.

i believe mark at dppi has an economical solution for getting rid of the muffler -- geno's has a replacement pipe also, but it is rediculously priced for a piece of pipe

after that, you can play around with getting a manifold or getting the "bomber-lite" from piers. this is the "stage" i am currently at.

the lite turbo from piers will not solve for the restriction on the exhaust side (as joe donnelly stated). a larger turbine/housing, on ball bearings, with spool-up is what i have dreams about at night :D

$30 in pipe and some easy welding and the exhaust is gone.

before the manifold i got 27 pounds of boost with a TS performance box. when i put the exhaust manifold on, it spiked to 32. now that extra boost doesn't really make much more power, but it shows you how much better the manifold flows.

numbers may vary depending on your gear ratio, truck configuration etc, but the point is it is much more noticable power gain than an muffler.

everything is exactly in the same place as the stock unit. meaning you will not have to modify anything

alignment is not the easiest - prior to bolting on
