ATS or DTT converter?

Seems auto mods are a touchy subject.

I may want to get a HD converter before adding more power and was looking at this ATS unit and this DTT unit. Future power levels are expected to 600-700 pounds, I tow 6,000 lbs in the mountains and plan flushes every 15K.



Even if you don't own one and maybe just did some research or know a friend that is happy with theirs- which one would you buy?

I just got a Dave Goerend transmission, and I drove it from Iowa all the way to Denver, I am here till Saturday, and then back to St. Louie, and I love mine so far.

If you mean Goerends X. Yes they make anything you could want. the same set up I have they have guyz running twins, and up to 800 hp that I know of. You can check them out at

I have the ATS transmission/torque converter/trans commander. It is awesome, and I have no complaints. I don't know what the others are like, but I am VERY happy with my setup. I drive heavy footed, and I tow long distances.

Pirate, How many miles are on your truck? When did you ditch the stock trans?

I have the ATS Stage IV Transmissions in both my 96'

Dodge CTD and my newer 02' Dodge CTD. Both trucks

are "BOMBED" and are at 500 RWHP. The 96' ATS transmission

has a little over 60,000 hard miles on it and the 02' unit

has a little over 20,000 miles. They both shift great and

I recently ran a 12. 94 @ 102. 98 in the 1/4 mile with my

02', so IMO, the ATS unit can definitely "put the power

to the ground!"



Clint and Ranee Cannon (Owners) of ATS and their

entire staff are great people to deal with! They build

a tough reliable transmission and stand behind what

they sell!

I put a Goerend Brothers in my 95. It had a triple disc torque converter clutch and would not slip with a bombed 400 horse 12 valve. Worked flawlessly. And the price and warrantee was definately right!



I don't know if he's making anything for the 48re yet, but he probably is.

Just a comment re: the poll. The relative quantity of customers with one or the other doesn't mean a lot. In this case, DTT has the advantage as they have been offering the upgraded transmission to Dodge owners longer than ATS.

There are more Escorts sold than Lincolns, but that doesn't make them better. I am not trying to offend anyone with this analogy, just pointing out a flaw in the quantity vs. quality analogy.

In my previous truck, a dodge 95, I had it rebuilt and a generic converter put in it. It was a lower than stock stall converter, it was better than stock but not even close to the DTT converter that I'm using now.

When I did the rebuild then I didn't even know that better converters were out there. I did know that the converter was about 1/2 way to were it needed to be as far as stall speed was for a Cummins.

If you are going to replace it--do it once and do it right is my advice.



I have been in several trucks with other brands and all of the drivers say mine is just right.

I'm sorry Jim about my misstroke on the computer, I meant to type a 7 instead of an 8, but as soon as I see a masked man driving around in a truck pushing 800 HP, I will be sure to give you a holler. I was merely letting X know that the Goerend brothers would build him anything he wants. Just like Bill will, and so will Clint. I have had my GB transmission for about two weeks now, and I am very happy with it, as I am sure you are just as happy with your DTT. Lets just leave it at that, and you have a Happy New Year.
