DTT has the advantage as they have been offering the upgraded transmission to Dodge owners longer than ATS.

Good point except "how long" makes a difference also along with the companies marketing efforts.

I am not trying to offend anyone with this analogy, just pointing out a flaw in the quantity vs. quality analogy.

No offense taken especially since I have neither product. Some may read it as a "quantity vs quality" analogy but what I have learned so far is that both companies must be doing something right because their customers come across as very loyal.

Thanks everyone that has taken part in the poll!:D

I've had my ATS Stage IV for 2 years, I've put 33,000 miles on it in that time, and I LOVE IT! I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Their Customer service, the attitudes off all the employees, and the TripleLok & Stage IV Transmissions are absolutely First Rate!

Thanks salesman... . give it a break!

I'm sorry Jim about my misstroke on the computer, I meant to type a 7 instead of an 8, but as soon as I see a masked man driving around in a truck pushing 800 HP, I will be sure to give you a holler. I was merely letting X know that the Goerend brothers would build him anything he wants.

I'm glad to see Dave has some high HP guys in his court, he sure seems to be a stand up guy.

Fulmer, I've never received anything for my support of ATS except a great deal of satisfaction and a big smile on my face.

I post about them because I am firmly convinced the ATS Engineering, their employees, Clint's attitude toward Customer service and the TripleLok are the Best in the Performance Trans. Industry.

Get used to it.

Hey guys dont start getting mad at each other. Everyone has there opinon. Being someone that is really watching this thread i really dont want it shut down. Please keep it civil

Jim,

You ever hear the saying "the pot calling the kettle black"?

Take it easy man.

I will say that Clint and his people are nice and all that. Check my sig. This was my choice. Make yours by calling the builders and finding out.

Don't have either but am planning on bombing my 48RE before I put a box on. In theory lock up/multidisk trannys sound like the answer, but with my hard earned $ I'm going with what has been proven over time in real world environments.

I understand that if we are to make advances in technology we must be willing to take risk with new innovations. I will let all of you who have the pocket book take that risk. If successful, I'll graciously tip my hat to those risk takers. I, on the other hand, can't afford nor want to be a ginny pig to a system that hasn't proven itself yet. I will stick with fluid coupling for now and go with a builder that has the most experience. The only thing I strongly recommend is do the research and give all builders a chance to explain why their system is better.

Another reason I Love my ATS is that it is 100% Made in America by American Machinists. Not in some (phrase deleted by rrausch). :D

Get used to it.

edit:

OK... I got some PM heat from the "foreign country" reference.

So let me say it this way... ATS is made in Denver, Colo. by 'Good Old Boy' American Machinists. My second favorite Country is Canada. (My girlfriend is from Calgary--True. )

With ATS not only do you get a Bomb-proof TC, tested to 1600+ Ft. Pounds of torque, but with the Stage IV you get a re-engineered trans. By that I mean than many parts in the Trans have been heat-treated, re-designed from scratch, cyrogenically treated, or beefed-up so that the trans can hold the H. P. for the long run.

Robert,

Do they (ats) still rely on lockup to get things going. I remember hearing about 2nd gear lockup and lock to lock shifts. Just wondering if they ever raised fluid pressures and are using fluid coupling yet? I still feel that fluid coupling is the way to go. I had an 89% TC and there was almost no difference between FC and Lockup. Greg

Greg, thank you for the curteous question.

Yes, ATS strong point is definitely their Torque Converter. Although their Stator is pretty darn good in Fluid Coup. mode also. Off the line, my truck is quick! I believe they do increase Line Pressure somewhat, but I don't have pressure readings to tell you how much.

ATS and DTT have definitely taken different approaches and BOTH ARE GOOD APPROACHES!

I can Lock-up in 2nd gear and sometimes do, as there is a steep, twisting mountain road I have to descend about every 2 weeks and I like to keep it in 2nd and use the exhaust brake. And Yup, it will shift locked if I want to.

It is great that you had a DTT set-up and you really felt it was the best.

I mean it. That is great. There's nothing better than Loving your own truck.

I Love my ATS. That's great too! One Size definitely does not fit all. There is room in the world for BOTH ATS & DTT.

So what is the differnce between how ats builds there trans and how dtt builds there transmission. You make it sound like they are 2 different animals.

They are night and day different. XcumminsX, you asked, now I'll tell you.

DTT relies on both fluid coupliing and lockup. Thier lockup is much stronger than stock.

DTT uses a completely redesigned stator with the highest efficiency out there.

That's where the similarities end. Every other part of the transmission internally is so much different, and cannot be elaborated here on this forum, you need to call and talk to each manufacturer and ask the specific details.

DTT has by far set the standard that everyone else is either copying or duplicating.

Made in America? Give me a break. You think your truck is made in America, 100%? Welcome to the global economy. It's everywhere and in just about every type of job out there.

ok now this...

With how each builds there transmissions what do you think the answer is to these questions

1) Which trans (ATS or DTT) is the better trans for drag racing?

2) which is better for all out towing?

3) Which is better for EVERYDAY driving?
