I have a Suncoast tc and vb in my '04 Ram 2500. I got it because my brother Dorian says all the techs at the Dodge dealership where he works use them in their hopped-up rigs. My other brother Chris is looking into getting a tc and vb in his truck now but he is curious about the 5-disk ATS. We both have the same year trucks, both have TST Powermax CR's, intake, exhaust, etc. He basically wants to have his truck outrun mine and the guys at ATS, of course, said that their tc is better and transfers more power to the ground. Is this true? And is it also true about some hearsay and readsay about ATS not being reliable? My brother has the stock tc right now and we're neck-n-neck through the gears until mine locks up in 3rd. So does the ATS actually transfer more power to the ground throughout the entire power curve? Please help clear-up some misconceptions!?!?!?!?!?!

the ATS 5 disk is not a true five disk. With all the cuts in it it has a lot less surface area than a conventional 5 disk, if there was one. I've held over 1200 HP with a three disk. A three disk is all you need. Maybe think about Goerend as well, lifetime warrenty vs. 3 years whether or no the input brakes. Dave is really the way to go, take it for what its worth. Truethfully though, any three, four, or five disk will work fine, i just like the peace of mine if something goes wrong, there is another TC waiting at my door step before mine is out

to answer your question the suncoast convertor will make more power than the 5 star, mainly because of less rotating mass.

I've had both and they are both top notch. They'll handle all you've got to give 'em.

I had an ATS on my 1996 Ram. I have an 01 6 spd. now. If I bought an auto again I would try someone else's transmission.

are far as the billet components go... . they're all probably the same thing between the makers. Billet is billet and they all probably get the same heat treatment.

I would recommend the ATS flex plate over the Suncoast simply because the ATS is a one piece billet plate. The Suncoast is also a nice place but, is a welded together two piece. Don't know what the lamination does or is for though.

The VB's are probably all the same too. For $150 you can get someone who knows what they're doing to drill out the stock VB which is likely all you're getting by buying one for a few hundred more.

From my research and in talking to those in the know... the Suncoast is apparently the best TQ on the market although better warranties can be had elsewhere.

The smaller companies will go out of there way to stand behind there products and build a name one can trust. Most of the products are the same, if one has a better product the others will match that product in a different, but yet the same way to stay in the pack.
Make sure your covered if it breaks! One of the biggest hardships is spending a lot of cash on a part and having it break and the down time with out the truck.

I was told to keep this quiet, so I won't really give any details. There is a reason ATS went "5" discs, and it isn't because it can hold more power or not.

A 3 disc will be more than sufficient. The DTT singles hold a LOT of power, too.

When all of the 3 disc (and the singles as long as they are able to hold the load), will transfer all of the power like a clutch on a stick transmission.

I recommend Goerend Transmission Incorporated

Dave builds tough trannys, and one of the cheapest, with no lack of quality. Great service, too. Dave doesn't blow so much on advertising or a new big expensive shop. All of us guys on the diesel sites keep him plenty busy. :D Can't beat free, good word of mouth advertising.

I've had both ATS triple disc and now the 5 star and I will say they both held up but the 5 star feels stronger when it locks.
