ATS Commander shift controler

Pecandude1, I recently installed an ATS stage V transmission with the billet flex plate, input shaft, TripleLok converter and the Commander in my 2wd QC. I bit the bullet and went the whole nine yards. I am happy with the control of the Commander as I can lock the converter as low as about 18 mph. You can set the lockup from about 18 mph to about 50 mph using the control unit or turn it off and let the Dodge ECM control the lock ups. Let me tell you when the TripleLok converter locks it feels like another gear change if you're on the throttle pretty heavy. I usually leave it set to lock the T/C about 33 mph, otherwise when you come to a stop it starts to lug the motor down almost to the point of shuttering like forgetting to push in the clutch. My trans now seems to hold itself in OD as you slow down longer than before but this may have more to do with the overall trans package I got rather than just the Commander. One thing I have noticed that I'm getting about 1 mpg more now, which I attribute the the lockup feature rather than the continual loose slipping torque contverter. I recommend you call ATS and the other trans companies and ask them. Hope this helps!! :-laf

I am glad you brought this up because I am interested to hear from those with not only the Commander but also from those that are using the ATS Transmission Controller that is a different and new product all together.

On their site they say is stand alone for conversions but in a recent flyer I read it can be used as either a stand alone application or interface with the engine controller on 96-05 models.

Also interesting is the CoPilot available for the 05-06's.

i may bite the bullit and try it. ats says you can program the controller to control the way and when the transmission changes gears and control lockup also. they said you could program it to skip a gear if you wanted!

I am still wondering what product you are talking about??

I talked with ATS today and they said the only thing they have for the 05+ is the Copilot which is a module that you program when you want lock up, such as a lower speed.

The fella I talked with said the commander is not for 05+ and works on the older models.

I talked to a guy at A. T. S, as well and told him my truck was a 2005 and he said it would work but he had to look up some stuff on his computer to be sure. He basically said you had to buy the contoller package for around $1500 and the electronic valvebody for $600+ and could set it up with a laptop anyway you want.

As for the Copilot, I am not so sure its needed. If you want a more early lock up, that can be accomplished by starting out in tow/haul.

Their complete Controller/VB assembly sounds spendy and vague on getting it to work with the engine ECM so no codes set.

At Diesel Xtravaganza they had a VB there. It looked pretty need, used the stock harness, since there is no longer a governor solenoid, and governor pressure sensor. They told me $600 for the VB and $900 for the controller.

does anybody have one of these or know anything about it?

The Shift Controller is a computer module that is paired with a special built VB. When these are installed you can use a computed to adjust every aspect of the transmission that the VB normally controls. For example shift points can be adjusted based on engine speed, vehicle speed, load ect...

The controller also has an option for a electronic transbrake for you racers.

The controller and VB cost 2157. 00

At one mile per gallon improvement, how long would it take to pay for itself?
