I got some questions here...

#1 Has anyone gained any HP with the ATS ?

#2 Why aren't they pre-assembled?

#3 Can someone give me the Phone or Web-address to ATS so I can ask them these questions?

Thanx,

Jay,

I saw no HP gains. Didn't dyno before and after install, however. Most others will agree with me. Probably see a little EGT decrease however. Biggest benefit is no warpage like the stock one does, with the possibility of breaking the bolt "ears" on the head. I suspect it flows better, too. Just compare them and you'll see.

As for pre-assembly, unknown. However, an hour or so prior to install I put the center section (that has the "female" ends, right?) in the oven at about 200* and the end pieces (the go inside, right?) in the freezer. When I was ready, I pulled them out of their respective boxes and slipped them together. Piece-o-cake. However, you better have some way of making sure the ends are properly spaced to match the bolt holes on the head right off because in a few minutes, they will equalize and get tight. I didn't have them exact and had to fight it for a while. Maybe a 2X4 with some holes with wooden pegs driven in that match the head.

It will be interesting to hear what they have to say.

Regards.

The other Jay.

baby. driver,

The ATS manifold bolts are Allen head. Get a set of the ones with the ball end. I couldn't get the center bolt with regular allen wrench or 3/8" drive or 1/4" Allen socket. You can't get a str8 shot to the bolt. I ended up grinding a wrench to fit. You will see what I mean.

Piers has said that the ATS flows 20% more than the OEM 12V manifold.

I would suggest gasket matching it (nothing major) and maybe having it High Temp Coated.

Gaskets are like $13. 00, when you call Piers's shop ask if you can buy it coated, he offered it to me when I bought mine and I declined, now I'm about to get it coated! Pay me now or Pay me later.

About $6 bucks a piece from Cummins.

It does not net a hp gain. It is just easier to flow more air out of and it will not crack like the stock manifold due to the temperture changes.

6 bucks a piece! Man, Cummins is as flakey as the stealers as far as prices go. I seem to remember when I did mine the gaskets were about $2. 50 more or less. That was last spring so I can't remember exactly. But I know it was under 3 bucks each.

VHT header paint works well if you clean the manifold first. $6 or 8 a can at Checker and speed shops. Do you think that is how my poor old Ram got 633. 8; maybe just the . 8 :D Seriously, airflow gains are important, and the stock 12 valve manifolds shrink until they break the ears on the head. The ATS is a good investment in preventive maintenance, if nothing else. If you think Cummis is high, check the Dodge price of $15 each for the 24 valve exhaust gaskets.
