ATS Trans Installed

Well I Did it,

Got the ATS Stage IV trans with the lock up controller.

I can say, this trans is GREAT and 100% better than the stock Dodge 47RE was. The shifts are very firm but still smooth. My truck became a pleasure to drive after the install. The power now goes to the ground and not out the tail pipe. It feels like I'm using half the throtle preasure I was using and the truck now takes off at 1000 RPM, by 1300 RPM your gone.

Clint, Renee, Don and the entire mechanic staff made me feel like I was a part of thier family. I had total access of the shop and what a learning experiance it was to watch a Torque Converter being built to the disassembly of a transmission. Transmissions of all kinds . This isnt just a Dodge shop these guys rebuilt every thing from little cars to big trucks in there 8 Bay Shop.

There Mechanics are top notch and second to none. And then there is Kevin Goode what a guy, sure wish that I would have had more time to spend with Kevin and the guys. I also had the pleasure of meeting StakeMan at the ATS shop.

After I left the ATS shop my wife and I logged in 4500 miles in 14 Days traveling the back and scenic roads of Colorado From Estes Park to Dinosaur to Aspen, then back thru Denver via I-70

(Stoped in and said hello and thanks again to the ATS guys) headed to Canon City and the Royal Gorge, the 4 Corners, Teluride,Silverton Durango and many many unmentoined towns along the way, and then over the Wolf Creek Pass headed towards home in good old Mississippi. Even though I was running with out a trailer on this trip with about 600 #'s of camping gear supplys tools(just in case) and my wifes gotta have stuff rocks & such, the Mountain Passes were of no concern on the way up or down, just adjust the Lock Up Control Box and it would hold the speed I set it at al the way down any grade. The lock up control box is simply the best money along with the trans up grade that I have spent on my truck.

Thanks Again to the ATS Guys & Gals.

TJ

I talked with ATS and DTT today - both great people!

Neither seems to have a shop near me to do installs - I'm in the northwestern corner of Pennsylvania between Erie and Cleveland, Ohio. Lots of potential around here guys - you need to get someone doing them.

Now I'm still considering which rebuild to go with.

One friend suggested I go to a bone yard and get a transmission out of a wrecked Ram and rebuild it myself so I can just slip it into my truck in a day. I work swing shift and it's hard for me to drive a long way and have my truck tied up for long.

Oo. BlakeOo.

PS - Keep these very informative posts going - I'm learning!!

Blakers, I'm about 65 miles south of Cincinnati, in Cynthiana, KY. That's not too far, I was in Cleveland just a few weeks ago, it took me 6 hours to drive home, and I live even farther south than my shop... .

ATS should have informed you of that, I'm sorry they didn't.

Feel free to check out my website and contact me if you have any questions.

BTW, I work swing shift at my regular job, so I know how it is!

Blakers, Briar Hopper can install the ATS upgrades, as the hard work, (the Torque Converter w/ Stator) is already manuf'd, and welded to tolerances. I think ATS will send all their strengthened parts, along with the TC to Briar, if you want. He's good!

Yea Robert Rocky got me 3or 4 times, I guess, but it was well worth it. The new trans is great, and such a pleasure to drive my truck now that I dont have to baby it any more. I will be towing for the first time with it sense the upgrade tomarrow and post how she preforms with 16,000 pounds behind her.

Thanks Guys, TJ

Was Rocky chewing on a used hand rag while he played soccer? That dog cracks me up. It was nice to me you too, tjlaffite. I'm glad you like your new transmission.

Howdy StakeMan,

I not only like my trans you could say I'm no longer sorry I bought an automatic (My First). I need to call Don & Clint and tell then thanks again,

See you'll later, TJ

I think I go drive my truck and play around for awhile.

Now, DRR-24V... I know you are a sworn Officer of the Law, and if you say old Smoke is telling you HE is the smartest shop dog... well I guess I will have to concede. ;) :) :D
