I'm considering getting a transmission upgrade by ATS to include their TripleLok Torque Converter. For those who have the ATS Commander Lockup Controller, is it worth the price? I have a 2003 with the 48RE transmission and no exhaust brake. I rarely come close to the GVWR or the GCWR of the truck, but do drive in the mountains. Should I get the Controller?

I drove my ATS without using a Controller for a year or so, then got the Controller. It makes a big difference, but I do have an exhaust brake. But the Controller is also very helpful for locking the TC when you want to, and also keeping it unlocked when you want. I also find it extremely useful for shifting locked when necessary. There are times it just pays to be able to shift locked and it's handy to be able to do that.

If you had an exhaust brake, I'd say definitely get the Controller.

So if you think you might ever get an EB I'd go for it, but if you know you'll never get one, it's a toss-up I think. There are benefits, even if you don't have the EB.

Yup, The controler helps taking full advantage of your transmission for sure. Heck, it's worth it to me for the lock-up gear-holding ability if nothing else. Gotta mess with it for a while to learn what you want from it and how to get it. Mike
