Edge Comp. Wire Installation Help!

I'm shopping around for a new TC/trans or TC/Updates to my existing trans. Price is a factor and so far I think ATS has the most competative pricing.

What I'm looking for is to get rid of the boat anchor feeling my stock transmission gives me in all gears until the TC locks up. I pull a 11k travel trailer and I'll tell you it is so painfull trying to get off the line and get up to 30MPH (TC engage speed). I'm tired of this and the stock TC shudder.

Any feedback from you guys would be appreciated. Also, what would a reasonable price expect to be for a shop to install everything.

Thanks in advance.

I would suggest that you attend May Madness in Vegas Baby.

Test drive or get a ride in the best of the bunch.

Neck brace optional ;)

Really do it :D

rblomquist,

I have right at 25k miles on my ATS triplelock and transmission and have had ZERO problems with it. The transmission has lived its entire life behind 450+ hp, and I beat the truck daily. As for power transfer, how about lighting the tires up while in 4wd, or spinning the rears when stomping the throttle (no boost buildup) from a stoplight with a 7k pound cargo trailer hooked up. I have yet to run it at the dragstrip, but I have no doubts that I can run a mid to low 13 sec quarter mile. My last dyno was 497 hp and 1189 tq, and my dad (who also has an ATS transmission with 20k+ miles) made 461hp and 1280 tq. The only thing that drives me nuts about the transmission is how fast I go through rear tires... . I'm about to put on my 4th set in the 25k miles! ATS isn't too far away from you in Vegas, so I'd give them a call and maybe ask for a shop visit... it's an impressive place! On the install, I think mine ran ~750ish for the removal, rebuild, and reinstall and I was in and out in a single day.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask, email, or PM.

John

ATS is great.

As banshee stated above.

The ATS triplelok torque converter and transmission get the power to ground.

You can feel a firm and positive lock-up on time, and nice firm shifts.

I recommend calling ATS and talking to Clint or Don.

They can direct you to a dealer near your location.

Pricing, I have found that the better transmission installers are also cheaper. (Meaning they can charge by job, not by hourly rate)

Good luck!

ATS Feedback

I too am very happy with my ATS setup. Because I am a long way from their shop, (Grand Rapids, MI) I had my converter and valve body installed by a local shop. This local shop had never seen an ATS setup prior to my request, but the installation went smoothly. I was charged just under $600. 00 for the installation.

The only problem Ihad was the transmission would go into limp in mode afer being on the expressway and then comming to a stop. This was quickly resolved with a phone call to Don and the addition of a 100 ohm resister in one of the lines of the wiring harness. Haven't had any problems since.

I've had my ATS Stage IV in for almost a year now and I LOVE IT!

I was convinced then, and still am, that ATS has the best engineering of all the major Trans Builders. Also they manufacture all their own components, unlike all the other Trans Builders out there.

I don't shift locked a lot, but it is really great to be able to safely shift locked when I need to, and know the TripleLok will take it.

Here is a link to the thread I posted after I went to Denver last year and got my trans. installed.

We'll I hope this doesn't get to flame status because that's not the intent of my post. I made the decision to ask for real world feedback from ATS owners because I liked the prices ATS lists as well as am intriqued with the engineering of the TC. Oh yeah, also they were the only ones to respond to my emails for info.

What I'm wondering is if I should go with their replacement trans and TC or do like some of you had done and just get the TC and have my existing trans upgraded by whomever I decided to do the swap. My problem is I don't see myself going to Denver for them to do it and since I don't personally know any trans shops here in Vegas I'd be (pun intended) rolling to dice. The closest ATS dealer is in Lake Havasu which isn't terribly far away but still far enough away that the butt-pain factor would be real high if I had any problems.

Thanks guys and keep it coming (I'm sponging it up as fast as you guys can give it to me).

You can try Diesel Dynamics they are in your area.

Yes I've shopped there however, they don't offer ATS. They do offer DTT but they no longer do uprades just straight swap-outs. Their price was higher than I want to pay so right now I'm still weighing my options.

If you're looking for a quality transmission at a fair price then contact Dave Goerend at Goerend Bros. Transmission.

Dave's been doing transmissions in his shop for over 20 years.

Well fellas,

I think he's looking for feedback on ATS trannies not places to buy DTTs or Goerend's.

Let's keep it on the civil track that has been followed thus far.

I can't give feedback other than all the the ATS trucks I've been in ran and shifted great. good enough that I'm swapping the 6spd out of my 01 ETH for an ATS right now and I'm buying a truck that has an ATS built 5spdOo. :D

I have freinds with all of them and they all think they have the best. I know I do ;):p:D
