Just an inquiry about an ATS transmission when there was a warranty claim:

1. Did ATS seem helpful and willing??

2. Did you ever get the feeling of not being helped??

3. Final outcome of how warranty claim was handled??

I know it's a loaded question but would like some experienced folks w/ the transmission's that have had warranty claims thoughts.

My transmission is an 01 w/ the complete transmission and tc replacement, 4 WD 3500 dually. New transmission has about 25 K miles on it, 3500 has 186 K.

Has severe overdrive shutter between 41 and 55 mph when converter is locked up and feels like it is starting out in 4TH gear ( even though it is in 1st ) when you take off or try to take off when it is cold. After it warms up, it seems to take off a little more normal but takes about 5 seconds or so for the truck to start to "pull" to go to second, third etc...

Have you contacted Clint C. to discuss your problems? That would be step #1 I would think.

I did have a strange one, right when I got the transmission done, just a few days later it was shifting funny, for the life of me now as I sit here I cant remember exactly what it was doing. Anyway, I called up Clint and he said bring er right in, so I did. They diagnosed it and the same day I had my truck back. Apparently the New Valve body had some quirk in it and instead of digging into the valve body they just put a new one right in no questions asked. They knew I was in a rush to get the truck back, thats what I call service!

Give Clint a ring, I am sure he will help out.

I've never heard of anyone having a problem with an ATS warranty question.

Where did you get your trans? Who did the install?

So far I've had excellant warranty resolution. About a month ago, on the road returning to Colorado, OD went off and wouldn't come back on. Called Clint, let them know when I expected to be back in town. He told me call the evening I landed. Next day I dropped the truck off, day later it was ready to pick up. They knew I'm on the road and depend on the truck for my living, they threw in a new unit. Faster than trying to diagnose what my exact problem was, just something in the transmission let go. My Transcommand is giving me some trouble, I called Clint again, he told me to take it to TST, they are in Indiana close to where I dispatch out of. Working WV to VA this week or two, first chance I get I'll take it to TST. Think a new controller may solve it. It's doing trojan duty, lots of other parts are falling apart, but the transmission seems sound.

Cheers,

Steve J.

OTRPU, I saw your truck when I was visiting ATS last month. How many miles do you have on it. Did you have to lengthen the frame to get that sleeper unit to fit?

If you would please re read my original post I would deem it that I have been there hence the question. So yes, Clint, Jeff and one other have been dealing w/ this for 3 weeks tomorrow. That's how long my work vehicle has been down.

They had the ATS transmission dealer that is 3. 5 hours from me run a few tests on the unit but no resolution yet.

I hope to have the issue resolved tomorrow. Dealer says they want to put a new unit in it but I don't think ATS is going to do that. They want to fix it ( which is fine I'll take anything after 3 weeks )

Don't know about factory set ups on Dodge trucks but the ATS is not designed to have to go that route. TC should lock up under light load or no load at as low as 35 mph. I should not have to turn the OD off just to keep the TC from shuttering.

transmission and TC was purchased from Haas in MI as was the installation. I am in Roanoke VA and the closest ATS dealer that Clint sent me to 3 weeks ago was in Richmond VA. That's where the truck is now.

I do have a full ATS transmission , tc ,valvebody and controller. If you read some of the common solutions to problems on the sheet you should have gotten with your transmission you would see that manually setting your OD to off will stop this problem if that is what is causing it. You're acting like we sold you the transmission. We're only trying to give you possible solutions that might help.

Where's the ATS dealer in Richmond? I'm sitting in the Richmond, VA Flying J right now, maybe they would have the new Transcommand unit. I thought when I talked to them they said no dealers in WV or VA. I've been running tween Beckley, WV and Richmond, VA Defense depot for more than a week.

Jim - the only "we" here is you alone. I have no idea what you are talking about w/ the statement of trying to help. And no, it is not normal to have to turn the OD off just to increase line pressure ( cause that's what it is doing ) to get the tc not to shutter. If you are driving the truck in a manner that allows the TC to lock up at any speed, it is not normal to expect to have to turn the OD off just so the tc will not shutter. I'm not sure if you were trying to start a fight or offer help. If it was help then thanks. If it was to start a fight, sorry for that to.

Hi Steve- the dealer is AAROW transmissions. 804-794-2400 I don't think they keep stuff on hand but maybe they will. There is a really nice lady that usually answers the phone there and Roy can probably help you to.

***Update on the transmission***

Got a call from Clint today about the transmission. Unfortunately for me the truck sat for 5 days before anyone had a chance to look at it and there were some communication issues w/ the dealer and ATS. The dealer was/is having staffing issues and Clint made several attempts to get the ball rolling but with everyone being busy there were hours between returned phone calls and a few days here and there trying to get the transmission troubleshot and here I am 3 weeks later. ATS is on top of it now and I feel a little closer to resolution.

That's good news. I've never known Clint to be unfair dealing with anyone who sought his help in good faith. And I've heard of many many instances where he went far out of his way to help a customer who needed it. Hope you get back on the road pronto!

Clint wanted me to know he was on top of it and by all means I did not mean he was being unfair. He actually talked w/ me about this forum and anyone reading this should know it was a loaded question to solicit input. It was not meant as a negative thing toward ATS or Clint. Bottom line his dealer in Richmond VA and ATS were having communication issues. The shutter gave the tech a fit trying to duplicate it so I had to jump through those hoops and then I found out that the tech said the slippage was normal. I think it's on the right track of getting corrected right now. They have found some line pressure issues and realize now that even though the truck weighs 7000lbs, when you hit the gas, it should go. The truck was just kind of sitting there and slowly accellerating.

Clint has always done me more than right, as you say it is the dealer holding up the work. I know that on more than one occasion ATS has shipped parts overnight for myself and other customers.

It was both holding up the work from what I can tell. There were things that could have been done on both sides of the fence to pick up the pace a little. Last week when the dealer said he could not get in touch w/ Clint on Friday, it was because Clint was not even there. He was off. I waited late in the day to call because the dealer told me they would have answers early Friday. I waited and waited until about 4 PM just to find out that ATS supposedly had not called the dealer back. Communication issues big time. Clint possibly could have gave the information to another ATS rep to handle Thursday. Not sure how their warranty system works such as keeping one rep on it until it is resolved but the other ATS rep that took my call last Friday felt my pain. I was not happy after the dealer told me they could not get in touch w/ ATS so I made the call myself. There was some finger pointing going on as to who wasn't calling who but the main thing for me is now I see a little light at the end of the road.

I am glad to hear you can now see an end to this. As you say follow up is a major portion of customer relations. Clint is gone to shows, races and dyno events quite often, but it has been my experience that help was always only a phone call away.

Good Luck:D :D
