After many months of owning this little electronic box, and hearing that it "makes you faster" from people who are using it with their ATS trannies.

I couldn't help but want to install it, so yesterday I did!

After consulting a friend at work for tips on finding a 12v power source in the fuse box, I was set.

The directions that came with the box were very straight forward for even an electronic illiterate like myself.

The installation took about 2 hours, about half of that reading, half splicing and finding wires and a little time for eating a hot pocket and drinking a coke!(union worker here)

Now, for the test.

I get it all wired up, now I go for the test drive.

I turn the the knob all the way on, turn off the OD and proceed to roll down my street, I feel the converter lock and the little green light go on at 20mph (just as its supposed to!).

Anyhow, I turn the knob back over near the off position (50-60mph lockup).

I then do some fast accelerations to WOT, I feel the Triplelok converter lock then I see the light come on and its full power to the ground from then on!

I tried hard runs in and out of overdrive, and the truck feels faster! (kind of makes me wish I had this box on when I dynoed earlier this month)

Now I have another knob to play with on the dash!

If you are looking for control over your torque converter locking up, and keeping it from unlocking (power loss), this box is for you. This box is also compatible with Exhaust brakes and is suggested for that purpose.

Try this!!! Get up to about 30 MPH, with the transmission in 2nd. Lock the TC, and hammer it. When you get around the Rpm up near 2500 and the boost at max, shift the transmission into drive. It will shift locked, and you will take off like a bat..... Keep on it until it shifts into OD, and then try to get the smile off your face :)

I took a friend for a drive yesterday and did this a few times to show what it is like. Talk about kick in the pants!!!!

For normal everyday driving, I lockup at 40

Still sittin on a fence

I still have a STOCK transmission. I know but the engine is still stock too.

Interested in hearing from ATS owners. Looking for transmission upgrade after gauge before the bombing really gets serious.

what say you?

sounds like you are a happy customer.

Cheers

Chuck

Chuck,

I wouldnt hesitate to go ATS all over again.

Depending on how much miles or how much hp you are going after, I would go ahead and get the full ATS transmission.

The Triplelok torque converter cannot be beat.

Ditto that Justin.

Hddriver, how many miles do you have on your present trans? I got my ATS Stage IV rebuild at 107,000 I think. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. It MAKES the truck. Now instead of roaring and lumbering off the line, it scoots out like a banshee!

I agree get the transmission first! For that matter, get the engine upgraded when the transmission is getting rebuilt. ATS does engine mods also. Then you WILL have a new truck :)

ATS

While my current steed is a 6 speed, I would go ATS if I buy another automatic. I did have a '99 Ram that I traded on the 2001 because of the Sucky stock Auto and few proven choices at the time. I may buy another auto and bomb the He** out of it, ATS included.

I've got 19,000 miles on mine sense May and it is almost like driving a stick. I love the way my truck handles with this transmission.

It's awsome compaired to the stock trans and my buddies stock trans. He says my truck takes of like a rocket, pulling identical trailers, he has a hard time keeping up with me, and his mods are the same as mine less the trans. As soon as he saves the money he is getting the ATS stage IV too.

Robert & JConely, RamminOn are you all using ATF plus three or Amsoil Synthedic. I'm close to servicing the trans oil & filter again and would like to go with Amsoil plus 4 if we can use it in our ATS stage IV trannies. Last time I used Mopar ATF plus 3 from the Dealer. I understand that Amsoil will help to control the trans tempretures better while backing and pulling a load.

Thanks,TJ

I have 4 wheel disks and ABS on mine. . why?

BTW, I love my commander, too... works like a charm! I have mine setup to lock at about 40-45, and I'm running Valvoline ATF. It was clean as a whistle on the first 10k fluid change :)

me too (happy, that is)

I have pulled my 14,000 lb 5th wheel around all summer now and have never regretted the decission to go with ATS. I did only the converter and valve body. I do not have their control box, but instead get by quite well with a 'mystery switch'. To tell the truth, because the ATS converter is so much better than stock, I often just let it shift and lock up on its own.

I did a great deal of research (it was 'brought to my attention' by my wife I did too much research!) and feel ATS is the best choice for me. But I would like to add that DTT, Dave Goerend and probably others are very good as well -- all MUCH better than stock.

Whats the lowest you have locked it up at?

Stakeman,

I normally keep it up because it'll pull the motor right down, but when I first installed it I had it set for about 25 mph and it locked up without a problem. I've never tried it lower than that, but my dad has tried his all the way down to almost 15 mph. Should there be a problem with it
