My new used 2006 has a straight pipe from Catalytic Converter to the end.

The Drone from the exhaust at the 2000 rpm range is ... ... . exhausting. #@$%!

Anyone comment on the following on whether a resonator or what type of aftermarket muffler will get rid of this drone AND get exhaust noise back to factory level?

What does a resonator do?

Any recommendation of brand(s) for resonator and muffler and where to purchase?

Tks for you help in lowering my exhaust noise signature, so that I can sneak home quietly without waking up the mistresses. ;)

I hear the Corsa Mufflers are very quite with no drone, but sound nice when you hit it. I have a Banks muffler and am happy with sound levels. a lot of guys like the donaldson mufflers. You should be able to just buy a muffler and install it to existing pipe without buying a whole new exhaust as long as you have a 4in pipe.

Donaldson makes a muffler that will kill the drone... . Never actually used one myself, but apparently lots of guys on here use them...

Donaldson, factory Dodge, and the diamond eye, would be my recommendations. The Donaldson and the Diamond Eye will sound a little better, as far as low rumble, but no compression release noise. Flowmaster also makes a baffled 4" that sounds pretty good, but for the money, I'd try the other two. I mentioned the factory muffler, as there are take-offs laying around everywhere, and you might could snag one for free.....

I didn't think of it until I check the updates, but Summit Racing has a house brand that works pretty good, too. Not too loud, but still annoys the neighbors... . :D

Installed the Flowmaster Hushmaster

WOW!!!!!!

What a difference a muffler makes.

I went to Johnny Franklin's in San Rafael, Ca, and they set me up. Outstanding customer service.

I settled on the Flowmaster Hushmaster (per recommendations from this thread and the shop), which eliminated the drone at all speeds, and makes it quiet enough, so I can sneak home at night and not bother the women.

Exhaust sounds more like a beefy gasser at idle. Stomping on it, I don't hear the roar of the former open pipe. Performance seems the same. I don't know if my EGT's went up. Although, the one negative item about this muffler is that I no longer get the audio feedback from the open pipes, so when I accelerate its smooth power and turbo whine, without all the noise, SO I end up at illegal and high speed without realizing it... . all smooooooooooth quiet power:-laf

Great thing about the above muffler shop, is that the Don spotted some bent bolts (from prior owner bottoming out) on the front end, had his guy get new bolts with the bushings, and installed them for me. Also, they welded up some holes on the pickup bed, all for the install charge. I can't say enough good thins about the HushMaster and the service from Johnny Franklin's.

... ... ... . so quiet is the truck now, I can hear the women cackle in the truck, which may be another negative about a quiet muffler!
