The local news has reported a rash of thefts of catalytic converters on Dodge Diesel trucks in the Stockton area. Replacement cost is said up to be $5000. Here is the article:

It takes seconds with a battery operated sawz-all to cut the exhaust and be gone. You'd think the local scrap yards would be wise to this, but. . the $ speaks louder than ethics, I suppose.

Along with the thefts, there have been 68 murders there this year, I drive as fast as I can traveling through Stockton and never stop.

Its being done here in Utah. They were targeting the toyotas and some SUV. Batteries off of Trailers is another thing thats being taken. There was amile of copper wire stolen off the commuter rail line a month ago. Also construction sites are losing alot of copper wire too, its being stripped out of new homes etc. Hard times are amungst us.

Yeah Dad had the power line stolen out of his 5ver, battery cables, pretty much all the wiring. I can't remember where but it's happened in many other places where these rats steal the wires out of the street lights and all other utilities, water pipes etc. I'm sick of the scrap yards turning a blind eye to it, just get it on a boat to China as fast as you can.

It happens up here in Canada too. In Edmonton there has been a rash of thefts of the NOx absorber lately as well.

hahaha... wouldnt be very productive here in Texas... everybody takes the Cats/mufflers off before the temporary plate expires! Besides, we have concealed carry... . we will shoot ya!!
