Hi All,

I have a bad Comp box on my truck. It's setting codes (P1693 & P0237), and causing my check engine light to come on. I completely remove the Comp, plug the factory connection back into the MAP sensor, CEL goes out and codes are gone. Plug the Comp back in - codes & CEL come up instantly.

I know the P0237 code is low MAP sensor voltage. I even went to Cummins West and bought a brand new MAP sensor - and it makes no difference.

I sent the box to Edge for diagnosis, they returned it with a very short note that said "The unit passes diagnostics" and they apparently updated the firmware to Ver. 8. I re-install it, and CEL & codes come on instantly again.

So, I am 100% positive it is either the Comp itself, or the wiring harness... as unlikely as that may be. I totally removed the wiring harness and tested each pin with my multi-meter, and there is no issue with electricsal integrity, every pin is 100%. When doing a visual inspection of the harness, I can't see any pins bent or pushed back into their connectors, but this may be the problem.

I've talked with the guy I originally bought the Comp from, and he didn't think even he could get just a new wiring harness from Edge, so my only options are to find someone else to temporarily swap Comp boxes with, or to drop $700+ on a new box.

I can't really afford a new box right now, but I have to have one, so I may not have a choice. But I sure would hate to buy a new one if mine is actually working properly...

So - is there ANYONE in the Sacramento, CA area that has a 2nd Gen 24 valver with a Comp that wouldn't mind doing a little swapping & testing with me for a few minutes some afternoon or evening?

Thanks.

Tom

when we got ours upgraded to a drag comp and had them fix the box because it wouldn't go into the 5th level they sent us a new wiring harness

Call up edge and tell them to truck test your comp. I sent my box in twice to have it bench test "ok". Finally I got some help from someone else at edge and he truck tested it they finally admitted it was bad.

From my understanding they have alot of warranty fixes they have to get done. So they try to get through them as fast as possible.

Thanks all. I have one of the very earliest Comps that was ever sold, and I know it is way out of warranty, so likely Edge figured they didn't want to waste their time on it. If it does turn out to be a bad Comp, I certainly wouldn't expect them to replace it, I would pay for a new one, but I just wanted to be 100% certain it is bad before I plunk down the $$$ for another one.

Beast2B and I are going to meet up on Friday at lunch and do a quick test between our trucks.

Tom, have you come to any conclusions yet. Very interested, as both my truck and cousins (brandon's old white 01) have been having similar issues. Im thinking these boxes definitely have a "life span" to them and some of us are starting to see it expire. Phil

After about a year on my original Comp, I got the notorious "random lights" bit. I called Edge, and they immediately sent me a complete new one for replacement, and it performs better than the first one, and has been flawless in the nearly 3 years I've run it since.

One thing's for certain, there are lots of excellent alternative boxes and programmers available - and these box makers had better treat customers right, or start losing them!

Good luck with yours Tom!

First of all, I wanted to say Galen (Beast2B) is an awesome guy! Not only did he let me try his Comp on my truck, he dropped by my work at lunch yesterday to bring it to me!!

So, after running first his Comp, and then mine - mine is 100% toast. His worked flawlessly, and mine sets codes and check engine lights instantly.

Galen let me keep his Comp for a few more days, and I'm definitely going to run it for a few days. I have already contacted edge with this latest info, and am waiting to see what they say.

Since my Comp is almost 4 years old, I do not really expect they will just replace it for free, but I am hoping they will at least give me a nice discount towards a new one.

Thanks for the responses, all.

Any time Galen, any time.

Just an update - I talked with the folks at Edge this morning, explained the history and the fact that Galen's Comp works just fine on my truck, that someone here suggested I request they truck test my Comp, and the guy I spoke with said "No problem, we can do that, just send it back to us and we'll run it on one of our trucks. "

Oo.
