This is no joke.

I placed an order for a 04 i saw on the Dodge internet site last week at a local dealer. We came to an agreement over the phone on price and I was told that the truck would be in Baltimore on 11/26.

I got a call from the dealer this afternoon asking if I was still interested in it. I said I was. I was told that Dodge is discontinuing Dodge/Cummins for the rest of the model year until 2005 model year starts and If I was really interested that they would honor our phone agreement but if I declined the truck they would put it on the floor at full retail tomorrow. So now I have it. I hope that this is all wrong info but the salesperson had no good reason to call me with such a fabricated story as we already had a deal.

They went on to say that as these last boat loads come in then that is it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Has anyone else heard anything?

I love the truck, will fix sig later.

Did it occur to you that his "if you don't take it, it will be gone" story was a sales ploy to get you to buy the truck?

It is possible that he's referring to the fact that the production of the current engines is coming to an end. There's another post showing an order cutoff date of 11/21/03. Maybe they are going to start with the new engines as 2005 models available beginning of next year. I know I ordered my 2001 at the end of January 2000 and picked it up at the beginning of March.

The 2005 model year may not be so far away after all.

Being a public company and all, I doubt they would have made a significant decision such as discontinuing production on Cummins equipped trucks without issuing a press release. Something is not right.

Did he also say he had another customer interested in this truck?

Sorry, I don't mean to be a A-hole but it sounds a little fishy in retrospect doesn't it? Ah what the heck, the only important thing is you've got your new Cummins! :D

2000 was a short model year. 2001 had an engine change (to include HO option, could have almost been called '00. 5). Perhaps the same is about to happen. Short '04 run and all the new cool stuff will be on the '05. Like the front axle disconnect, EGR, 350 HP, 600 ft/lbs.....

Could have been, he had a customer that was wanting that truck right now, and offered to pay sticker or over. And he had you on the speaker phone with the customer sitting there. He may have been covering the sale of the vehicle. Did you put down a deposit when you ordered the truck? By the way tell us all the details including the price.

Thanks

Its called pain/loss avoidance. Sales tactic taught in all sales fields. It worked didnt it! He got his commissions now instead of later and his boss got another notch in his belt for the month.

Glad to hear you are in a new Cummins!

If he had someone willing to pay sticker he wouldnt have bothered calling you back. No salesman turns down less money especially without a written contract binding him. He knew you were on the line and didnt want you to get away.

Doesnt matter as long as you got the price you wanted. Enjoy the new truck.

Briman maybe right. I took delivery of a 2001 CTD on Jan. 29, 2000. Could it be that the new models coming out with egr in Jan. will be '05s?

2004.5

The industry website that shows production information indicates the EPA motors are 2004. 5 Model Year.

Other than a brief production interruption to get the new EPA motors online, the Cummins will keep on' Comin' ;)

Vaughn

The CTD is discontinued for the rest of the calendar year, not model year, because of the new emmisions. I suppose DC could call the trucks with the new engines a 2005, but I doubt it.

Hi Guys

This is the first chance I've had to post since I did the original post on Tuesday night. I've had a couple long days at work.

First of all, the salesperson was a woman, she handled the internet sales for her dealer. When we originally made the deal over phone on last Wednesday, she gave me invoice pricing minus another dealer discount. I had some other discounts to use up also. Anyway we agreed on a price for the truck and she called me back a little later to say that it shouldn't be in until the 26th and because of the Thanksgiving holiday it possibly wouldn't be there until as late as 12/1. I said that would be fine that I wasn't down and out for wheels and wasn't in a big hurry. I told her that I would call back today (11/20) or tomorrow and see how close it was to being here. So she called on Tuesday (11/18) to say that it was in earlier than they thought it would be and she asked me was if I was still interested in it or had I found another truck somewhere else. I said that I was still interested in her deal because the truck had just what I wanted on it, nothing more - nothing less. It was after we formalized the deal was when she told me about the call from Dodge saying "no more trucks"until 2005. I said well how about that, that there were so many rumors flying around about what was coming down after 1/1/04 that it was mind boggling. She said that they had found out that they wouldn't be getting anymore after this load came in and her boss told her that if I didn't take it that he would put it out on the floor the next day at retail price. Feeling like someone was trying to set the hook on me I then asked if the price that we agreed on last week was still good even though it was verbal. She said that her boss agreed to it, a deal being a deal, but if I turned it down it wouldn't be open to anyone else. So I went down, looked it over and it was okay so I bought it.

I will say that yes I have swallowed the hook and got reeled in a couple of times in my life. I'll be the first to tell anyone that I'm not always the brightest bulb in the pack. But now I'm at the age where I don't get all giddy like a teenager or 20's dude anymore. Especially over material things like a car. If the manager had started the game I would have excused myself and took my 02 home that there wasn't anything wrong with anyhow.

I agree with you guys, Upson and MacKenzie, that they must have misunderstood the date. It's a pretty long stretch to think that Cummins might have to close the engine plant for a few months until the new model gets here.

So go figure, i just threw this out for you guys to see if you heard any news like this.
