While cleaning my engine bay I decided to lube up the throttle linkage ball attachments and noticed the slop in the rotating portion of the linkage. It is the rod with the big spring attachment. Check yours out, this is an easy repair, not even a one beer job. :D

First, remove the three bolts that hold the assy to the IP. On the backside of the bracket is a spring clip, easily removed. Under that is a washer. Pull the linkage out of the bracket and you will see two bushings, one inside, one outside. Clean up the assy, replace the bushings and reassemble.

Cummins part # 3914353 crosses over to Dodge part # 4425053. $4. 27 each at the local dealer when I *****ed about the original $7. 47 he wanted to charge me. :-laf

I also was lookin for threads about this got the part #for linkage package but was wondering about that since mine is at an angle looks worn out thank for sharing

It is something often overlooked... ..... The shaft will wear out if driven too long with the worn out bushings, then you will tons of fun. The direct replacement parts are not serviced by Dodge or Cummins. They will sell you a big kit full of parts that don't work

Some models had a spring with-in a spring and there were different lengths some had springs in 2 locations getting older so don't want to quote which has what set up and be off a year ;)

Thank you for the info.

Do you have the Cummins part number for the return spring on the throttle?

As a "for instance" my linkage has three springs. One is shown in the picture, and two are side by side farther back. One of the side by side springs was changed to a stiffer spring when I installed the Jacobs's exhaust brake. The parts kit CANZ9700 includes a spring, throttle cable and the new improved throttle rod ends and IIRC balls. A heck of a good buy just for the throttle cable, and the spring might be the one you need.

I/we didn't know these kits were available when we built my 86/92 Retro and worked on my brother's 4wd two years ago, so I just manufactured some new bushings and drilled them for lubrication. Part of regular lube service now. Made bushings from stainless steel. Appreciate the kit numbers though. Will log them and who knows, may need them if mine don't hold up very long.

Thanks for the video link...EXCELLENT!

I can see from watching the video the I'll need the bushings for sure.
If I need the plate with the shaft, could mwilson please tell me part #?
I believe my engine number is 56257772.
I sure would appreciate it!
