I have heard that some members may skip this recall for fear of lower fuel mileage. Read this post.

It WILL NOT LOWER your fuel mileage. I may change the way your trip computer computes the mileage and display a lower economy number, but the REAL ECONOMY WILL NOT CHANGE.

This recll is to correct a TRULY DANGEROUS situation. I know because it happened to me when I was exiting the interstate being pushed by a 12,000# trailer. The exhaust brake will not work and the service brakes are severly taxed. This is a SAFETY ISSUE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, do yourself and your loved
ones a favor and have this recall done ASAP if you have not already had it done. It only takes 30 min. so you shouldn't be in the dealership more than an hour altogether.

Sorry about all of the shouting, just wanted to be sure I was heard.

I'm through preachin' now!
Fireman :D

Fireman,

I'm sorry to hear of your incident, it does not sound like a pleasant experience.

The letter I received from DC does not say what is happening or what caused it or what is being done to correct it. Perhaps if you have a spare moment can you tells us what happened.

Thanks Ken

Fireman how were the trucks brakes taxed? Did you not have any brakes on the trailer? Exactly what is this recall pertaining to? Not trying to flame you just trying to understand. :D

My recall notice described an uncontrolled acceleration symptom after the cruise had been used for several hours. It seems that when your coming down the off ramp the puter will keep the throttle on. They went on to say this can lead to an accident - well DUH!

I believe it was for trucks built in December, after that Dodge has corrected the problem. Check your VIN for assembly date.

Vaughn, when driving my truck hard the engine would rev to 3500-3600 in between shifts, after the **ealer did the CO2, it behaves like I think it should!!!

Exactly!

I posted an account of this event in early Jan after it happened. What happended was after several hours of running with the cruse control on I exited the Interstate. The ramp was down hill, and eventhough I cut the cruse control and didn't have my foot on the accelerator the truck continued running down the ramp. What was wrong with my service brakes and trailer brakes? I asked myself that also, the answer was nothing. Next time you are on the highway pulling a trailer down hill apply the brakes and try to stop it without removing your foot from the accelerator. The brakes are good, but everything has its limitations. When I realized what was going on I disengaged the clutch and the engine raced to the red line at which time I killed the engine. Not good for the turbo, but what good would the turbo be if I had piled up my truck and trailer.

I just heard a few mention that they didn't want to have the reflash if it affected their fuel economy. Well I just wanted any doubters to know that this was a TRUE SAFETY ISSUE.

Fireman

All of the trucks on the recall do not need the flash but they need to be checked anyway. Mine did not need the flash as the software was up to date. There are 19,000 trucks involved in the recall. I would not like to experience what Fireman did, he is lucky to have not had a very serious accident.

Dean

Mine was done this morning. Certainly no difference in the way it runs. I will monitor the mileage. I know my computer was pretty close to my paper and pen calculations before the reflash.

Casey

Had mine done last Friday. The truck runs exactly the same and the fuel mileage has not changed (took it on a long trip this last weekend). Unfortunately the overhead is still off by 2 MPG. :(

Does anyone know for sure where the computer that calculates this reading is located? It would sure be awful if it died somehow and had to be replaced.
