Hey there guys. Kinda curious what kind of ramps you guys are using to get your ATV's up into the back of your 4x4 rams? I will have a short bed, but will likely use a Louisiana Guard Dog device to hold down my atv. These are really cool if you haven't seen them, they attach in the hitch receiver, and then attach to the trailer ball on the ATV. Keeps it STUCK in place. Getting it there is my question though, since the 4x4's are so high. Wondering what ramps you guys use safely. Thanks! I have a prairie 650 4x4 with 27" outlaws, so I'm about 49" wide.

i have a '01. 5 4x4 sb 2500 and i took 2x12's cut to fit bed length, nailed some 1x1 boards across about 6" apart for traction cleats, attached a hook on the outsides of each ramp and use a short chain to chain them to the bumper to keep them from kicking out from under me, kinda steep but my 4x4 atv has no problem climbing them, even with snow on them during hunting season, also you might want to check out http://www.atvpickupcaddy.com/product.html i had the double rack for my sb, but with two atv's and 8 deer on top it bent the bed rails on my dad's chebby, (they bought the rack back and paid to fix his truck) but you can get just their ramps which are 12' aluminum and fold in half, (they work like a charm) Pm me if you have any questions or want pics of either.

Thanks!

IllFlem, thanks so much. I've had a hard time finding ramps that are long enough, and wide enough. I figure it should be 75+ inches long at a minimum and I need 50" wide, due to the huge tires on my atv. They have one thats 50/82, and the prices very close to the competition. Those look like the ticket!

Thanks BM. However, the ramps northern has aren't nearly as nice as the trifold's that are on the link above... The trifolds from the link above are a full 50" wide and 82" long!!

I made a set of ramps out of an old extension ladder. Just cut one end to the proper angle, welded hooks on the other and added a stringer between the rungs. Very light and very strong but a little bulky and not real beautiful. Good news is you can make them as long as you want.

How about checking with your local ATV dealer. At my store in Nashville we carry several different ramps, single fold, tri-fold, and even sets of bowed ramps. They come in lengths from 6' to 8' and fold up narrow enough to slide in between the wheels of your ATV, which would work great with your Guard Dog because they can't get the ramp out from under the ATV with it in place. They range in price from $119 to $199. I've seen WAY too many nice ATVs dropped and too many nice trucks messed up by people trying to save $50. What'll it cost to fix or replace your tailgate when a make-shift ramp slides off or collapses when you're loading or unloading your ATV?

Local ATV dealer is typically more expensive, and the longest ramp I've seen anywhere including my dealer is 77", not 8 feet. The one I ordered is from discountramps, the second link in the posting above, a trifold kind, that is 82" long and 50" wide. I saw one 84" long, but it was only 46" wide, and my atv is 49. 5" wide. Also the kind I got has very closely spaced rungs, and has traction material machined into the surface. They are the ultimate, and a steal at $139.

FYI, 8 foot ramps will not fit in my truck or would be very very close, although I dont believe they are even available. 8 feet = 96". A member posted the distance from the front of the short bed to the rear of the bed WITH the tailgate down is 95".

Oh well, I'm very happy with the choice I've made. Highly recommend these to others.

I have a set of bowed ramps I use to get my P650 into my truck. They are about 7' long and work really well. I like them because you dont have to worry about a ramp that is too narrow. (Just putting them in the right spot) I dont think you would have to worry about it if you got these, I can load into my cousins Ram that is on 37" tires with no worries. I will look at them to tell the maufacturer tomorrow when I am near them. I paid 115 at my local Kawie shop.

Take care

Mark

Lightman, I saw a few posts telling you to use 2x's and cut off ladders. I'm just trying to emphasize the importance of using the right tool for the job. If you can find it cheaper, go for it!

FYI-The length of our "8 foot" ramps are actually 94" so it would fit in your 95" "8 foot" bed.

Glad your happy!

You want heavy-duty? I went to my local lift-gate installer. They had a pile of ramps from delivery trucks. I bought 2 for $100 each. I cut them down to 9'. I could drive my truck up these ramps. I have used them to cross washed out sections of road. That did put a nice bend in them.
