Dmax breakdown? NO!! From AdvRider

Diesel Caravan?

In the last two weeks I have transported 2 Dodge cummins trucks to auction.

The first one was a 1996 reg. cab 2500 Auto. 134,000 miles with a reading bed. The dealer I transport for payed $6,500 and it sold at auction for $12,000

The second one I just brought in and it was a 2003 reg. cab 2500 SLT Auto. '8 bed 84,000 miles the dealer payed $16,000 and I will try to find out Friday at auction what it sells for.

So if you ever go to a new car lot to buy a used truck don't feal bad about trying to talk the price down (WAY DOWN)

Good Luck Truck Shopping

AHHH the auction... ... If you want to find out if you have a reputable dealer or not, pull your truck up next to one similar to yours on the lot. Tell the guy" Hey i'm looking for a newer truck" (or what ever) and that you want to trade yours in. Ask the sales person to go get the appraisal guy and give you a figure on trade in. Then give him a look like you might bite his head when he gives you the figure and ask him what their asking for the truck your parked next to. Take this time to note that most dealers are going to 7-12 thousand dollars higher on their asking price. (keep in mind that if their only 10K higher thats $200 a month payment)

... ... . OKAY Who got me started on the dealers again... ... :D

Dealers are Stealers... . period.

I dont give any of them slack... and I've walked out of many showrooms and given the sales staff the bird right in the showroom. Why not... I never go back... ... so I have fun yanking thier chain.

Just the other day, I was in a Ford dealer in Madison WI killing time... . they had one of those golly-wolly fancy GTs there... . with a freaking 72k markup on it.

I recently test-drove an '03 Ram 2500 CTD auto that had 42k on it..... but they wanted 31k for it. I told em 27k (market value around here) and they said no. I told em good luck selling it and walked out. Next day it was gone for auction. (Ford dealer here in Neenah... . the Brett Favre dealer)

They also had a simple plain jane 2004 Lariat F150 with only 8k on it... . priced 6-8 grand higher than other similar trucks on the lot... . because it was Favre's personal truck. stupid dimwits.

BTW... . the service dept. there is GREAT! but the sales side leaves something to be desired. :-laf :-laf

Hey now... be easy on us dealers... we are only trying to make a living. You would make all you could to if it was you selling them. I personally have a liking for Dodge people so they always get a better deal with me. ;)

Well im not surprised, he only paid 6500 for the 96, but man im surprised he could get 12000 out of it, especially for a work truck with a utility bed, Id think that truck would only be worth around 9500 full retail, now the $16000 for the 2003 was an out right steal.

Hey Oasis,

I'm guessing that you are talking about Manheim Auto Auction, since I always see your truck there. Do you know whose First Gen truck with the 5th wheel and giant single stack that is who is always parked behind lot 190?

Up Date

The 2003 did not sell this week it was only bid up to 16,500 so the dealer did not sell it and said he will run it again next week.

SmokinU the first gen is Greg's truck he drives for R&R trucking

No disrespect man... . but your wrong. I would rather sell 3 trucks with $4K in mark-up than 1 truck with $12k mark up. That is my whole point. By doing business this way:

1. I have made 3 happy customers as opposed to having 1 customer wondering just what in the world happened in that finance managers office.

2. By having 3 happy customers that I chose not to take advantage of I have a whole lot better chance of selling an extended warranty which the finance manager gets paid from.

3. My 3 happy customers that just bought extended warrantys, guess where they are going to go get service..... MY SERVICE DEPARTMENT! Thats more revenue for the dealership.

4. I will get my dealer reserve (kick back on the loan the bank gives me for using them) from 3 different loans.

5. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, Being that I (as the dealer that is) spend hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in advertising my 3 happy customers will double my inventment... . 1 unhappy customer that got taken advantage of will cost me thousands by the time he / she tells 5 people.

But hey..... we both made 12K huh? ;)

Just a old car salesman trying to make a dollar they use to say. I sold cars and trucks for 30 years. Always dealt with the same people over and over. Always tried to treat people like I wanted to be treated. That work for me. I made a decent living and had a lot of friends doing It that way.

Holy... . I never said I put the screws to anyone for 12 grand. The car dealer just took his truck to an auction to resell it and if you know anything about auctions at all you would know that it could have went just the opposite way it did. If the buyer was willing to pay what he did then it is his baby and he must have been prepared to give that much for it. I don't have a finance manager nor a service department and I don't sell extended warranty's and most of all I don't farm out loans from my bank to car customers. I also have no idea where you get the idea that advertising costs hundreds of thousands of dollars a year... mine costs me 375 a month x 12 =4500. BTW... where is YOUR dealership at?

03 Sold

The 03 sold today for $17,000 at auction.

So if you see a black 03 long bed with NO door badges think of this post.

Good luck

CSnyder... the $12k figure I used was when I went to a dealer, parked my truck next to one identical to mine with the exception of it had 6 speed and mine has an auto. He quotes me $14k for my trade in and was trying to sell his to me for $26K. Keep in mind... . SAME year, milage,QC,CTD and overall body shape.

I don't see how "it can go either way" ;you start the bidding at a set price that you want. If no bids or too low bring it back.

Look. . I don't own a dealership. . and from the sound of it you don't either. It sounds to me like you have a car lot. Car lots aren't NEAR as bad. They don't have the "overhead" as a dealer might. Car lots depend on REPUTATION more that advertising to great volumes of customers. This is not a slam on you personally CSnyder. FWIW I just has this conversation with a President of an acura dealership on thursday. I was repairing his washer. (@ his house) He pretty much said what I was saying is truth. However he said the prices are our fault(actually I think you were some what eluding to this) "what make a price is what you (the customer) are willing to pay for that vehicle. I said thats true... . only thing... if we paid for it out of our pocket @ purchase. . a CTD would not cost 40k. (no financing)

My apologies for maybe sounding a little ****** off but living in a small rural area people talk and are always bad mouthing "us" dealers. I only sell used vehicles as a sideline hobby and don't use it to support my family so I have no need to screw anyone. I only keep about 20-30 late model cars and trucks around and quite frankly I'm happy to make 100 bucks on each one after my expense and I figure my expense on a month to month basis.

I do hot shot trucking, jockey farm equipment in large volumes, internet business, work as a land manager for an investment company that owns land all over the midwest, and have a tree planting business, and whatever else I can do to make money. So I don't need to get rich on every deal but if someone at auction is willing to double up my money for me... I won't ever say no.

I hope you understand where I am coming from now... Chris
