WindingRoad Magazine - Issue 10 = PACKED full of diesel info

Hmmmmmmm... ... . the pressure is on it appears. I think the push to more alternative fuel use is really starting to gear up. Using B20 as a way to lower diesel emissions looks promising. The way I see it right now, Joe Public just really isn't all that aware of the new gen diesels. WORD OF MOUTH will spread the news quickly with these vehicles knocking down 35+ mpg with excellent performance. I can still hear that wonderful V12 sound from the Audi R10 at Sebring! It's only a matter time I do believe... ... . ;)

In the meantime, everyone should do their best to keep their foot off the soot pedal when they're in public. The negative publicity of the 'soot belching diesels' will do nothing but hurt this movement we've worked so hard at...

True and false.

I would LOVE to believe that the human logic would notice that trucks that "belch smoke" and are "loud" aren't "stock" not different then the average ricer, muscle cars, or what ever... ... .

I'm sure the average logical human would notice there are much much more "stock" diesels that don't make one puff of smoke.

so, I would have to say on this account, Making smoke "should" not matter. just like squeeling tires, you'll get a small ticket and slap on wrist fine. How is making smoke any different then making more power in a gasser and leaving tire marks everywhere?

But, I would have to default to agreeing with you on the don't smoke bit. . One simple reason...

"People Are Stupid".

So yeah. Take that people!

We all know that the net pollutants coming from all of the BOMBed gassers of the world far exceed the net pollutants coming from a diesel.

The kicker is that people can readily SEE the pollutants coming from the diesels. Short of a 2-stroke or a REALLY rich running gasser, you can't see the pollutants coming out their stacks. People have always equated smoke to pollution, but in this case the smoke you can't see is actually doing the most damage.

If we're going to keep making inroads with getting more diesels stateside, we all have to play the game by taking it easy in public.

Yep...

Just once I wanna take a smoking ticket to court and have the charge be something like polluting. Cuz well, a few google searches in for documentation and the case would be ruled in my favor.

But if the ticket was something like obstruction or something along the lines of not allowing hte person to see where he was going. Then, well, ok, maybe. But how to you give a ticket to mother nature for rain, fog, snow? :)

I also saw a brand new 7-series BMW with a diesel! I took pictures of it (amongst other diesel cars... ).

As promised - here are the pics:

Here's the 7-series BMW... it was a 'taxi' for all intents and purposes... what a freakin' sweet car...

And some pictures of a MKV Golf 2. 0L TDI owned by a European colleague of mine... notice the (crappy shot, sorry... flash was defunct... ) 6-speed manual transmission and Euro-spec MFD (multi-function display) - neither of which are available in the US in OEM form... He took me for a rip in it and it was easily the quickest bone-stock TDI I've been in... and we only went a few blocks...
