Does the Dodge radio have 'mute' signal line available? These are used by perm. installed cell phone kits to automatically mute the radio when the phone is in use.

If it matters, I have the standard SLT radio/CD player, not the optional Infinity system.

thanks -

Leonard

not sure...

but it shouldnt matter. it is mostly dependant on your in car kit. I have a genuine nokia in car kit in my truck with a mute wire, and my local audio installer wired it up with a relay ( the exact wiring i dont't know) so that when an incoming call or i make an outgoing call, it shuts the radio off, and when all is over the radio powers back up.

hope this helps.

Mopar parts has one of these kits which integrates with all the radios. Caution: may be pricey, so the aftermarket could be your best bet.

Sorry to burst your guys bubble but you could have done things much easier and cleaner if the installer knew what he was doing. All Chrysler radios have a pin on the back of the wiring harness in the radio that is a mute function I have this in my 01. I do not know the color but you should be able to find it in the service manual or contact a very qualified radio shop if you cannot find it yet I will pull my radio out to find the color.

That pin might not be on the '03 radios. They integrate with the PCI bus so they may have done something different (if at all). I don't see anything in the wiring diagrams about mute and the connector pinout diagrams for the radio and the amplifier don't list a pin for "mute" either. This doesn't mean it isn't there but it raises some doubt in my mind.

Not to start any flames, but personally, my radio is turned off most of the time. And the phone, thrown in the center console, is turned off all the time. Unless it's a dire emergengy, I'll call and people can call me on the phone at the house. When I'm in the truck, I enjoy the drive.

There's a story about a country farmer and a city slicker. The farmer was out in front of his house leaning on his fence when this city slicker drives up and asks him for directions. As the farmer begins to give him directions, the phone in the house starts ringing. The farmer ignores it and keeps on talking. After a number of rings the city slicker can't stand it anymore and asks the farmer if he's going to answer his phone. The farmer says "Nope. I installed that contraption for my own convenience, not theirs".

That's about how I feel about my cell phone. Handy thing to have when I want to use it but I don't want everyone calling me on it.
