Hello all!! I called today about the status of my new truck and was told that it was on hold for a quality audit. That is a good thing, of course, but I am confused on something. Last monday they said it was KZT which is first rail departure. So at what point do they decide to do an audit? I guess I was under the impression this would be done before it left the factory. What do they do if there is a problem? Any one with past experience on this matter, please let me know. Thanks in advance. B.

It sounds like were going to express much evil joy if it were the Big One...

Never got the audit but I would assume if it was pulled at the exit from the factory and there was something wrong, they'd fix it if it were fixable. If it wasn't, you'd think they'd go back to whatever point in production they can to bump a later build order that matches your and get yours out ASAP. I assume they give you the results of the audit?

Re: Audit

No, they did not tell me the results or even if it has been done yet. It was pulled on 4/5 for this. My confusion is around how it can go from being on a train in transit to being pulled for this audit..... B.

Coonrod70 I too have a truck caught up in this mess. I talked to the dealer today and was informed that my truck, sitting 20 miles from dealership since 4/2, had to be inspected by DC for something out of the ordinary. He said its something to do with the paint jobs. He stated that DC caught the problem "before it went public". So keep this in mind. If you receive a truck in the near future be sure to pay close attention to the paint.

I suspect that any problems found would be defered to the selling dealer. I really doubt that the production line is setup to repair anything. They may even do the audit and never fix or notify you of anything and leave it up to you. Remember, they are doing this for their benefit, not yours.

Actually they are! I went on a tour of the ferd plant and they had several area's where cars were taken aside for cosmetic or mechanical rework.

Okay, here's the skinny. Trucks built between Feb 10 and March 28th are being examined for a possible problem with the corrosion inhibitor, which could cause trouble later in the truck's life. I'll get more when my Mopar rep faxes me the entire thing. I talked to him earlier today and he didn't know anything and later on he called me on his way home to tell me this much which he gathered from a fax that came in right before he left.

I was wondering what was happening. Our new '03 was built the week ending March 15 and is in "containment". Others who have ordered after our truck have already received their trucks.

If it ever shows up, I'll check the paint very closely. Oh well, I can always wait until after the first of September and order a '04 as long as it's built before the 1st of January!

We ordered plain ol' white. The same non-exotic color used for years! A defective rust inhibitor probably will affect all colors similarly.

My dealer (in Utah) told me the same yesterday. Said my truck wasn't affected as it was built after the problem (he didn't say exactly what it was) arose but it's held up just the same. Are these all from the Mexico plant? I believe that's where mine was assembled.

Fiver -

When was your truck scheduled to be shipped? Mine is today!Oo. I hope they caught the problem and fixed it before mine was built.

Can't wait.

My order went in on March 17th. The dealer called with a ship date of 4/9. I called DC yesterday and they said the truck had not been built and that is was scheduled for build next week. I asked about the 4/9 date and apparently my truck had been given a earlier build date and then it was pushed back till next week. I am just hoping it gets here by the end of the month. Hopefully what ever was wrong with the line was fixed last month.

 BTW, Mine is Silver too. I almost didn't get silver because of the problems DC had earlier. But after looking at all the trucks on the lot the silvers just look real sharp.

:( The wait! It's a killin me.

Mine is shipped and at the yard since 4/7. It's awaiting delivery to the dealer ASAP.

Regarding the bulletin, here it is.

"To all Dodge Dealers

INVOLVED VEHICLES: 2500/3500 SERIES 2003 (DR) RAM TRUCKS BUILT FROM 2/10/03 THROUGH 3/28/03.

You will be receiving shortly a VIN list identifying vehicles that may have a contaminated anti-chip primer. Contaminated anti-chip primer may eventually lead to an inter coat adhesion failure in the paint system.

THESE VEHICLES SHOULD NOT BE DELIVERED UNTIL A PAINT EVALUATION IS COMPLETED.

We are currently inspecting vehicles at dealerships. You will be contacted when an inspection team is in your area. Results of the inspection will be supplied to you and the Buniness Centers. Vehicles that fail the inspection MUST NOT BE DELIVERED and will be diverted for additional processing. Vehicles that pass will be available for immediate customer delivery. Disposition of vehicles previously delivered will be outlined later.

AT THIS TIME, DO NOT DELIVER, OR ATTEMPT TO REPAIR ANY OF THE PREVIOUSLY LISTED VEHICLES. "

Well, honestly, if I WERE in their position, I'd extend a limited lifetime paint and body warranty to all that were affected and fix those that have definite problems. That's really the only way I see fit for this to be somewhat resolved. I'd only assume that those who were already delivered will be recalled and inspected. Hey, at least we're not the 6. 0 liter Fords, they just don't run too good these days. My Ford contact is complaining about software issues and massive powertrain quaility control problems. At least DC is doing something about it NOW. They'll do the right thing.

Harry-

Mine had a shipping date of last Fri. (April 4) but when I called it was just being painted on Thurs. the 3rd so that put it behind right out of the chute. Now I understand it is assembled but has not been loaded onto a rail car. The paint fiasco bottlenecked everything. I'm now thinking my best case will be by the end of the month but realistically I may be three to four weeks out, depending on how long it takes for them to perform their inspection prior to unloading from the rail car.
