I called ATS today and asked if they had released this turbo yet, they said they have sold a few and so far all their reports have been good. Has anyone here had any experience with this turbo yet, if so, how's it doing?????

I believe that there is a guy over on the DTR who had one with some problems keeping it together, try a search over there because I am not 100% sure. Mike

I was just looking at the info posted on the Aurora 5000 over at ATS's site and was intrigued with its design. The valve reminds me of a power valve on a 2 stroke dirt bike and how those work so well.

I was only there looking at transmission stuff and ran across the 5000 so quickly jumped over to TDR for some research and this was the only thread I found.

So it must still be very new. I been looking for a one time upgrade and am sure some have seen my questions on twins and the Jammer BB. . now this item :D

The 5000 and the MST are two different turbos. The one thing they do have in common is a $$$$ price tag lol.
Hrmm, I read that a second time and it still sounds like one turbo. . well maybe not, 3rd time around reading that.

moolie- I tried to find something over on DTR about it but guess I am doing the wrong search. I did read a thread of a fella with a 3000MST that was happy and thought the 5000 was also a MST.

I had the chance to ride in a truck (dodge CR) over the weekend with the Aurora 5000.

Power was lets say... ... :--)

Made my 488hp seem like stock.

Its a big turbo and it spooled pretty fast too!! Over 50psi easy.

that mst thing looks great... it's so simple compared to sliding collar or variable vane turbine housings... if it works as discribed,

jwilliams, what other mods did this truck have, so you're saying this is a better turbo than the b104??????

I sat in on the program at May Madness where they displayed the 5000. Quite a bit of engineering involved. There was no working demo truck, but I am convinced they are on the right track. One possible bump in the road is that it does NOT fit any standard exhaust manifold. A new one is included with the unit.

The 2 volute system seems to make sense, a small one to spin up the wheel down low, then open up the larger volute when compressor side reaches a point selected for your particular setup via a external adjustment. You can tune it to meet your own particular needs. It is a BIG compressor. I heard 50 psi mentioned several times.

No firm pricing was given, but $2995 was mentioned. A version for the 2G is supposed to be available in a few months.

GWoody,

This is a bigger turbo overall than the B104.

It looks like it would support 600hp or maybe better.

The B104 has its place and so does the Aurora 5000.

The other mods on the truck in question were the usual stuff along with some injectors (of course).

It cleaned up the fuel in a hurry!!

I can't list all the mods the truck in question had (owner was very secretive :D ).

So the 5000 must also be a MST then if it spooled so well.

Besides the spool factor the MST design seems like it would be a good towing charger too.

edit scratch that. . I just called ATS

The 5000 is not MST and is designed for Big Hp race stuff yet can be very streetable just a little laggy so getting a 5er going is not its purpose.

The MST flows 1200-1300 cfm wide open or a little better than a HX40, is efficient to 40-45 psi. Expensive but impressive numbers. I read on another thread where it can be adjusted for boost at idle if that gives any idea as to how well it spools!

A 3rd gen kit is exhaust manifold to down pipe with everything for a bolt on project at 3283. 00

The 5000 is not an MST turbo. Did you read what I said above? Might I suggest you just pick up the phone and call them rather than getting second and third and probably even forth hand info off the internet lol.

I did read what you said and what JimKing said made it sound as though it was a MST so called while you were posting, but the main reason I wanted to get this thread going again was in hopes someone with first hand experience would post. The vendors will always tell you what they have is the ticket.

Ain't that the truth, wow, for that many $$$$$$ I'd go ahead and go twins!!!! I am curious as to how much this would reduce the egt.

Me too, its still about 1600. 00 less than twins and you get a new manifold plus its bound to spool better than even a HX35 on the top charger.

Everytime I think I've made up my mind on a new turbo I read something different and I just can't decide. Don't really want to spend that kind of money for a single but the more I look at their website with the new turbo, I start to drool!!!!!!

Same here and whats worse is the expensive taste I seem to have. I may give this one a try. ATS feels its fine for 500hp. I am no where near that but like to plan ahead.

425-450 would be nice with low EGT's and great towing.

I have been in two trucks with the 5000. It is a pretty sweet turbo. It works great on third gens there is hardly a differnce in lag from stock. And 50 psi no problem. You cant even see the the numbers inbetween 10 50 psi it is so quick on a digital gauge
