My dad owns a hot shot business and wants to buy the new 600. All his other trucks have 6 speeds, he wants to try an auto but everyone tells him it won't hold the weight. The problem is now he's looking at the GMC with the allison! I want him to get the dodge but he's scared. What do you think?

How much weight? I use my auto 600 towing a 5th wheel and the combo weighs in at just under 20,000# loaded. I get about 12. 5 MPG at 60 MPH. Is that not enough?

He pulls a combined weight of 25000 lbs twice a month, and rarely goes over that. The truck will stay busy hauling something every day. The 6 spd's hold well to about 70000 miles then it's time for a clutch, it does'nt matter the make!

Everybodies right! Any brand will break. I run everyday allday, sitting in Lakewood, CO right now. Trucks back at ATS getting the billet shaft. Scaled this load, CAT GCVW 22,100lbs, somewhat under what your dad's plannin. Got a PSD and it breaks. . . if I had a Chebby, no doubt in my mind it would break too. Fact of life, light trucks aren't designed to be worked all day everyday with loads. You can do it, but it's gonna break. JMHO

OTRPU, I have seen your pickup when I lived in COLO. I wondered who owned that rig. Sonofagun, now I know. Interesting looking rig.

I agree with OTRPU but would add that he will have less expense and less problems if he stays with the 6 speed. The Allison is a heavier/stronger trans. but will be much more expensive to repair/rebuild when it goes out. Besides, I would be concerned about the Chevy/GMC holding up pulling a heavy load every day.

Stay with the Cummins/6 speed combo in the Dodge or the same combo in that other D. C. product, the Freightliner FL60. JMHO :D
