Does anyone know of a way to disconnect the automatic door locks? Or, better yet, a way to have the doors unlock when the truck is turned off. It's beyond annoying to attempt to get into the back doors or passenger door and have walk back around the truck to unlock them.

yes & no

I read it in the owners manual, I just don't remember the procedure. Check your manual, it's a really simple procedure.

Fireman

You can program the auto locks to do a variety of things.

I have mine (Neon, but is the same in my wife's van, so would probably also apply to the Rams) programed so that all doors unlock with one push on the FOB. I also disabled the auto-lock at 15 mph, so the doors would all be unlocked when I get out. You can also disable the horn(s).

The proceedure was something like turn the key 4 times and pressing the door lock button down within a few seconds, etc. Should all be n the owners manual.

Thanks for information guys. I re-read the owner's manual and indeed find instructions for disabling the lock feature. I'm not interested in disabling the auto lock as much as I am interested in having the doors unlock when turn off the truck. Unfortunately, there's no way to do that.

Thanks again!

I don't have my truck yet so I'm quoting from the service manual here. With the EVIC overhead console (the fancy one), there are several user programmable choices for the door locks. Yes/no to automatic door locks. Yes/no to unlock on exit (the option you are asking about). Remote unlock driver door first/all doors. Yes/no to flash lights with locks. Yes/no to sound horn with locks.

The unlock on exit feature unlocks the other doors when the driver door is opened and the vehicle is stopped and in park or neutral.

With the EVIC it says that when you select Yes for automatic door locks you are then presented with the second choice of unlock on exit. Without the EVIC the manual says you need to use a DRB III to program the automatic lock feature. It doesn't mention the unlock on exit feature but that's probably an oversight.

Is there is a procedure to program the automatic locks with the transmitter? If so, it isn't mentioned in the service manual.

I must not have the fancy one because I don't have anything relating to door locks on my console. The owner's manual only states how to turn off the automatic door locking "feature. " The process is turn the key to on/off four times in 10 seconds and then move the door lock switch to lock within 30 seconds. The truck will then "chime" to announce it's been changed. The same procedure will turn it back on.

What's a DRB III?

It's the scan tool they use at the dealer for checking MIL codes, programming features into the computer, etc. Maybe the dealer can program the locks for you.

I used the procedure in the manual to turn off the auto locks. I noticed that once I turned the key twice the odometer displayed the word 'done'. It also went to all dashes ---------- after that. What does that mean? What did I change?!

Help

I try-ed to disable the auto lock but I get ------d. Don't remember if it said Done I came back in the building at work walked up a flight up stairs so I done forgot:D Guess I will have to get my son or daughter(she is a 16yr old wizard when it comes to computers). Me I'm:confused:  :D

The easy way to do that is to hit the unlock button twice after you turn off the truck :)

That's the problem, I don't want to have to do that every time I shut off the truck and get out. It seems I always remember that AFTER I've walked around to the drivers side to get something.

Doors still lock

I had my daughter try like it says in the manual and it still don't work. We can not get the ding from computer like it is suppose to. Might have to take it to dealer and get them to hook up there big puter and do it.

I finally got mine to turn off. I had to try it six time before I got the 'ding. '

I agree, it is a pain in the butt. It'll take some getting use to. It's like those automatic door locks at 15 mph. I don't like 'em, but I'll get use to 'em. They aren't as bad as a rent car I had in Indiana a couple of years ago: I was letting the car warm up while I chipped away at ice on the windshield when, suddenly, the locks locked and there I was on the outside looking in. Thank goodness for AAA.

I was able to disable that automatic door lock following the owner's manual. It did take six tries though.

Well I try-ed it at work today. I think I did it 6 times I don't know. I got mad and lost count. Anyway they still lock.

I'm going to leave that up to she-who-also-lives-here. I made a deal with her three years ago: she got the car she wanted if I could have the truck I wanted this year. But to keep her grinnin' while she's workin' her way through these gears, I let her choose the color and everything else. Automatic door locks come under that category too. :)

The "autodoorlock" was THE most irritating thing about my 01 2500 when I bought it. I searched the manual to no avail. Ordered the "factory manual" and learned that it was not owner changeable..... the dealer had to do it. The dealer failed on the first attempt, but the second time they "killed" it. It is sooooooo pleasant to drive down the street and not hear them suckers lock!

I went by the dealer yesterday to get me a bottle of touch up paint(which they gave me)and order me some of those molded mud flaps and I told them I could not get the door locks to disarm so they put there Master computer on it and its done now. Now when I go some where I don't here the click of all four doors locking. :) :D

I live in the big, bad city where strangers do things like jump in your car as you exit to the highway. Yeah, actually happened to a woman I know. So, those auto locking doors are music to my ears. What I don't want is the interior lights going on if I haven't opened a door.
