I have searched to no avail, so are there any postings listing the order and what to watch out for when removing an auto and installing a 6 speed? I have a complete wrecked '01 that was a 6 speed so I should have everything I need. I have already swapped the Dana 80 that was in the 6 speed to my truck. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Ron

Are the driveshafts usable from the donor? Your signature says ETH but you have an auto, are you saying ETH because of the extras you have added? The only other problem might be the ECM because the one on your truck is an auto and I don't think you want to put an ETH ecm from the 6 speed on an ETC like I think you have. You might be able to use the auto ecm with the manual but I know you can't do vise versa.

Rono, almost everything is straight forward. The exception to this is the wiring. I didn't have the luxury of having a manual truck to get parts from when I did my swap. All the mechanicals bolt right in. Definately look into the existing shafts from the manual. I had to lengthen my front shaft and shorten the rear (with 4x4).

Now the wiring. You need to get a pigtail from Blumenthals for your backup lights. Additionally, you need to ground the wire that is looking for "Park" or "neutral" with the auto trans, or the truck will not start. I had to do this because I didn't change the ECM or PCM, yet. The only thing that doesn't work this way is the cruise control. If you are going to use the ECM and PCm from the manual truck, you will need to hook-up the clutch switch.

I know this was brief, but HTH

Batman, thanks, I had not thought about the backlights. Since I have the wrecked truck everything should be there. Also I forget about the connection that tells the truck that it is in Park. Thanks again, I'm not ready to do this yet but I can see that it may take a while.

I have been curious about this as well. do you have to cut out the floor? I know some vehicles are identical and everything is a bolt in swap. also is the clutch linkage mechanical? are there the proper provisions on the fire wall?

Hey guys.

FYI, it took me about 40 hours to complete this swap, with no special tools or lift. However, I did have to get the tires 19" off the ground for the bellhousing to clear the chassis (due to the type of trans mount I have on my jack).

DMcPherson..... no, there are no layout lines to cut the floor. I measured, cut, measured, cut some more, tried to fit the trans, cut some more... ... I started small, so I wouldn't have too much of a large hole, then stupid me forgets to remove the gear selector from the trans (4 bolts would have saved a lot of time and aggrivation). As far as the pedals and clutch master cylinder... the pedal bracket is the same, as well as the pedal shaft. However, there are spacers, different pedals (of course) and the clutch switch. There are dimples in the firewall right where the clutch master cylinder needs to mount.

As I mentioned before, most everything about the swap is straight forward. With that said, I'm glad I have a shop manual, I needed to change the input shaft on the transfer case to have the same spline and shaft diameter as the NV5600. This was straight forward as well.

Most of the work was done by me alone. I had a friend of mine help with the heavy stuff. Other than that, it wasn't too bad.

Remember, the NV5600 weighs about 400 lbs, the flywheel weighs about 60 lbs. Oh yeah, the flywheel, make sure you use new bolts to mount the flywheel (per the manual), and don't over-torque the pressure plate mounting bolts either.

HTH
