Hello!

Lately I have been growing more and more and more discontented with the Auto in my 95 Dodge. To the point I'm either wanting to swap the auto out for a manual, or just get another truck. The later may be the best solution of the two though, for it would be nice to have an extended cab... But that's another story. .

So i'm wondering how big of a pain it would be to swap the transmission out on the truck and do a conversion from auto to manual. Then I also got to consider the availabilty and cost of the transmission... Again probably be cheaper to get another truck!

Ideas? Suggestions? Random thoughts?

I'm not sure what you had in mind but I know that Enterprise Engine will do the swap for ya, they've done quite a few of them. Not sure on what the total cost your lookin at but I would give them a call and at least find out. www.enterpriseengine.com

Yeah I might give them a call.

I'm just wondering what the transmission will cost. I'll do the swap myself.

I'd like to have like a 97 extended cab though. So might just hold off, live with the auto for the time being.

That's what I did. Bought the 97 ex-cab 5 speed, then sold the 94 reg cab auto.

Don't regret it a bit. Much more fun with all the horsepower.

Yeah I need to get out the truck trader and start looking!

Give my '95 to my mother.

then we will have 3 Dodge Cummins trucks in the family!

98 with a five speed

I too am looking for a 98 quad cab 4x4 with a five speed but I have not found one that any one will sell that is not less than 20k dollors. I might even consider that number but it would have to be clean. For my purposes the 3. 54 gears are the best.

I have been setting on the fence on my auto in my 95 which is very clean and low miles. I just like to shift gears, no problem for me. I have a very nice Mazda Miata which is a standard and it is fun to drive. I had a Camaro which had a 302 with a four speed and I use to run it through the gears and it was an instant rush when the engine would pull like crazy up against the rev limiter at 8000. Maybe that is not normal but I allways enjoyed shifting the transmission.

I finally bought my wife a small truck with a automatic . I am going to please my self and that is that, I am that one who is paying for it. Life is full of choices, I have ridden in a truck with a dd transmission and It was very good, unreal compared to my stock auto, I just prefer the standand.

transmission swap

Taz--

I posted a rather lengthy response to someone who asked this question about 3 months ago. When the search function on the website is back up and running go look for it.

I did the swap between two '94s. My dually, and the 5-speed 3/4 ton that I bought to do the swap (then eventually kept for a daily driver). There is SO MUCH to swap that I thank God I opted to buy the donor vehicle complete instead of just buying pieces here and there. I would have gone insane if I'd bought one piece at a time.

Transfer cases are different, driveshaft length will be different (both if 4x4), wiring harness and computer is different (the auto harness will work for a stick, but not the other way around) and a thousand other little things. Do your homework before you commit to a project like this. I had the luxury of being able to drive a beater Toyota 4x4 for over a month while I did the swap, didn't hurt to have a heated shop big enough to hold both disabled vehicles (and then some) during January in Minnesota while I did the swap.

It can easily be more expensive to swap than to trade vehicles.

If you decide to do the swap, Good Luck!
