I just purchased an NV4500 5 speed out of a '01 2WD. I will be putting it in my '95 2WD that currently has an auto. My question is this '01 NV4500 already updated from the factory with the 5th gear nut  Also I believe the manual has a 31 spline output. What spline is my '95 2wd auto? Lastly, will I have to shorten/extend my driveshafy. Have most everything else to do the conversion, just trying to figure out the driveshaft deal wtihout actually taking it off. I appreciate any information. Keith

K LeClair,

I just did mine last week. You will need the drive shaft from the donor with the 5-speed. The auto is longer than the NV4500. I only had the front half from the manual because I was told the only difference is the transmission yoke. We were able to make it work by moving the cross member the carrier bearing mounts to. I need to get new u-joints and the drive shaft rebalanced. Good luck.

Scott, thanks for the info. Do you remember if the difference in the yoke was spline count???I'm thinking it is???I will have to find a donor drive shaft. Keith

Your right,It probably will be cheaper to have my shaft modified. I just wanted to have all the parts in hand when I did the swap as this is my daily driver. Keith

K,

I didn't count the splines but the yoke looks totally different. It has a "flywheel" on it about 6" in diameter. Better check the output seal, too. I ended up replacing mine 4 days after install. The old one was trashed.

You'll need wiring diagrams for your switches. I had mine done so I can't help you but he did say he had to run wires because they weren't just "hangin' there".

K,

I found out today why the old seal was trashed. The front half of the drive shaft(The one from the donor truck) was 3/4" too long. I broke down and took it to Clinard's Drive Line here in Nashville. All they do is drive shafts. Got it done right. Just thought I'd let you know.
