I hear everyone talk dirt on the dodge auto's and evena dealer told me they only got it worked out in 1999. Is it true or is it a backbone for other diesel trucks to use cuz' the Cummins is the best? BTW, if you put a suncoast or banks torque converter on, how much power could it hold? thanks

OH BOY, OH BOY, OH BOY! ANOTHER AUTO transmission THREAD!!

Seriously, your best bet is to do some searches and call some vendors. When you crank up the engine output, the stock convertor will slip. Where you will end up powerwise will tell you what your trans will need to work. I recommend Goereond Brothers in St Lucas, IA.

I prefer Riptide Rush.

The torque converter is not the weakest link. Never was. It is a POS . The trans is a good design but it is not set up right from the factory.

If you are going to fix it, do it right and have it gone thru.

bad trannies

My 95 has logged over 90K with a #6 plate and pulling a 9K TT all over. The 98 pulled the same trailer for two years and the fiver over 5K since August. At 118k I put a #6 plate in it. Too much power for the stock lock up. It will slip above 24# boost grossing 20K. The older 47's don't shift like the newer ones, but if you keep the rpm up when towing and watch the temp gauge they will give you good service. you can tweak the 47re to perform better. I have adjusted mine some and plan to up the pressure some more on my next service.
