My first post!

I just purchased a 2000 Quad cab 2wd 2500 with auto 78k mi. My truck is equipped with 4. 10 gears. My planned use is to tow a 2 horse trailer occasionaly. Most driving is commuting to work 25mi. one way mostly freeway (70+MPH).

What is the standard ratio for my truck (3. 54)? I am considering changing to a higher ratio to improve my MPG. I just dont want to give up to much towing capacity. I know I could install a Gear Vendor. But, gear change is much cheaper. Just wondering what factory gear ratios were available? And some feedback from those more experienced. Lastly, what needs to be addresed electronically (computer, ABS) when changing gear ratio?

Thanks, Walt

Two ratio's were available for you truck. The 4. 10 and the 3. 54. Good luck. What kind of mileage are you getting?

When you change gearsets, you need to go to the dealer to have the pcm recalibrated for those gears.

Also, what tires are you using.

Most members report mileage improvements with the 275 injectors and an EZ installed. I'd do that before the gear change and taller tires.

Call some venders here at this site and look at E-Bay too.

Im running the stock size tires. Cant remember what size that is offhand. Good to hear that about the 275's. Want to install those for my first upgrade. Will look into the EZ also.

Thanks,Walt
