I don't mean to be redundant! I did a search but didn't find some specifics I would like to know regarding changing the AT fluid... . so here goes!

What is the total capacity of the AT (See Sig. )?

How do I get ALL of the fluid out? To install my AT temp gauge, I replaced the appropriate AT cooling line. Can I remove the AT temp Gauge sending unit and accomplish a complete AT fluid drain from there?

I understand simply taking the pan off, changing the filter, and letting it sit will empty 9. 5 Qts. of fluid. Does that constitue a "complete" AT fluid change.

Thanks in advance,

Tagalong

Tag,

I'm changing mine every spring (about 12k +/-). I drop the pan and get as much out as I can. I figure by doing it frequently, not getting it all isn't a problem. I eventually cycle it all out pretty well with the frequent changes.

My truck will take 16. 5 quarts for a complete fill. I can usually get about 11 quarts out by removing the temp sender in the '95 factory line that I put in my truck, letting it drain and dropping the pan and filter. I usually do it when I get home from work on a Friday and let it drain overnight. The next morning I put everything back.

Koa Man, do you have your ATS yet? If so, all you have to do is drain the pan, then pull the inspection cover and drain the TC.

Yes I have the ATS, but I only have about 800 miles on the trans so far and have not changed fluids yet. I noticed the drain plug on the TC. The Dunrite I had before did not have a drain.

Missing the easy way.......

After you've done the usual pan removal etc, check your transmission line to the radiator. You should find a quick-connector, just about the middle of the rig at the front that allows you to completely drain the system (or almost). Simply run the rig, and let the old oil from the Torque Con drain out. This is simplified if you have somebody who can watch the oil as it enters a jug, via the use of a hose, and another person to add clean fluid on top. You loose a couple of quarts, but so what... .

Haven't said anything about it because of all the recent heated :-{} whenever auto trannys (and oil) is discussed. All I'll say publicly is ATS, DTT or Goerend... . I don't think 99. 99% of the people will be disappointed. Can't say 100% because I know of at least one.
