Gonna change my trans fluid, don't have a clue as to what type to get:confused:

ATF+3 or ATF+4???

01' truck with Suncoast TC & VB

Any help would be appreciated

Dave

My trans shop recomends 7176 fluid only for our trucks. I tried a name brand performance blend and my ney converter shuttered like mad. Switched to the 7176 and never looked back.

Who makes the 7176 and where is it available? bg

Dave, If you like firm shifts go to dextron/mercon atf+3 available at costco for 12. 00 a case

Before that I ran amsoil universal atf +4 for 30 k mile great stuff but it will cost yourabout 6. 00 qt versus 1. 00/qt fo the mercon

I am happy with the mercon so far, much firmer shifts. :)

I run a modified transmission too

Hey Bob, FYI Dexron III/Mercon and ATF+3 are different. Like you I run the Chevron Dexron III/Mercon from Costco and in the past have ran the Amsoil and the Redline High Temp ATF. I like the feel of the Dex/Merc better in both the trans and my wallet. ;) I do add a bottle of Lubeguard too..... great stuff. (red bottle)

Not to stir the pot, but I still use ATF +3, type 7176 from the good old dealer.

Yup... good oil is expensive, but not as expensive as good iron.

Had DTT upgrade. ATF+3 now. Before DTT, stock 47RE ATF+4.

Let's see, change ATF every 12k, drive truck 360K = 30 changes. 5 gallons / change. ATF+4 at DC $30 / gal, AFT+3 $10 /gal. $100 per change difference.

30 changes x $100 per change difference = $3000. Just about pays for the DTT upgrade.

Seems to be alot of different opinions on this subject:rolleyes:

I'm gonna call Joe at Suncoast and see what he reccommends but I'm leaning towards the ATF+3... I'll be changing it often enough not to have to worry to much about it. I want the firmer shifts also.

Thanks Bob!!

Just ordered a new pan gasket and filter from Jerry at Mag Hytek. . great people to deal with!!

I've been using RTF from TCI, availible at Summit or Jegs. If I remember correctly its $12 per gallon.

The best recommendation I have is that I use it in My Cherokee with NOTICABLE improvements. Of course I also change it annually, that probably helps.

I have experience using it in a couple of full time units.
