Hello all, posting for my girlfriend's Mom, so ignore my sig...

Did a search and couldn't find what I am needing help on

When it's cold outside, and truck is cold, it shifts into 2nd, and then hunts back and forth between 1st and 2nd fairly quickly, like every 1/4 to 1/2 a second.

It does it 4 or 5 times as it accelerates, then is normal, doesn't do it on any other shift, or when it's warmed up.

Thanks in advance... Michael

Apps???

I just ordered a new transmission because mine was doing the same thing. The eratic shifting was accomponied by some other strange noises/behavior. Anyway, I read a bunch of posts on the subject and decided to try and eliminate the erratic shifting before my new transmission goes in next week, just in case it was not transmision related. Try unhooking the batteries for a while, did mine overnight not sure how long it really takes. After cleaning terminals really well and reconnecting turn the key on but do not start and depress the accellerator 3 times slowly. My truck is running perfect again :D Still can't wait to get the new trans so I can up the ponies Oo.

Good Luck

Thank you for the quick response... could you explain the reasoning behind this, or direct me to threads?

Thanks again... Michael

I just did a search on Transmission problems but a search on APPS might be better. I am no expert, but from what I have read the transmission relies on input from the APPS to control torque converter lockup and shift points, this signal can be compromised by noise or just be out of calibration altogether. I hear DTT among others sell a noise filter. FWIW, I replaced the rear wheel speed sensor just before my truck started acting up, not sure if that was related. But I can tell you my transmission is working great now and I never would have believed that possible after the way it was acting.

Good luck

Sounds like the gov solenoid is going bad. You can just take a chance with the pair of sensors in the trans ,gov soleniod and pressure sensor/transducer. I highly doubt you need a new transmission unless it was giving you no 3rd when cold, then fine when warm. A good trans shop should be able to diagnose this problem with a pressure guage ,and a scanner for about an hours labor. If your mechanically inclined id do the sensors, they dont cost much more thna a diagnosis, and then you know thats done.
