Can someone tell me what transmission I have in my truck? I need to know whether it's a 46RE or a 47RE. The truck is a 2000, 1 ton. I tried to get the part# off of the side of the trans. but who ever stamped the # did a bad job and made it hard to read. This is what I came up with P4?52119851AA. I also tried to find the body code plate which is suppose to have this info. The book says it could be in two places , on the front face of the radiator closure panel or on the floor pan under the passenger seat. I haven't taken the seat and carpet out yet. I hate to take it apart to find it not there. If someone could tell me it would save me alot of time and would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Tim

Tim,

I'd bet it is a 47RE. I think the 46RE was in earlier models, at least before my 99.

Someone else will have to tell us both twhen the last 46REs were behind the CTDs.

yes the 47 was made for the higher power applications... so you have it. The TC is about twice as thick, looking at outlines of the two in the FSM.

The 4 is the number of foward "gears".

The 7 is a normalized rating for power. . so the 6 is for less powerfull applications, 5 for even less.

Forgot what the R stand for.

The E is for electronic.

This is from my 99 FSM...

"The body code plate is located on the floor pan under the passenger seat or attached to the front face of the radiator closure panel. There are seven lines of information. "

Starting from the bottom, the 4th line up ("about center of the plate") has 21 digits.

The 13,14 & 15 position tell the transmission. .

DGP = 47RE

DGT= 46RE

DGK = 42RE (must be V6,ugh who bought this?)

DDP = NVG 4500 5spd

DDX = NVG 4500 HD 5 spd

DDC = NVG 3500 5 spd

DEE = for my year... the elusive NVG 5600 6spd

46RE or 47RE

I have a 98. 5 24V, and always felt that it was a 46. DC and the dealer would not tell me yea or nay, just that it would pull the rated GCWR for the vehicle. The window sticker said 46RE. The plate on the radiator said DGP. However, I had to purchase a filter for 46 for it to fit.

I just had my transmission rebuilt; the rebuilder said it is now moot; you will leave here with a 47RE, since the cases are the same, just the number of clutch packs or something like that is different and more in number.
