What I'm about to describe happened last Thursday (2/2/12) the time most recently before happened sometime before new years and has only occurred a few times before that.
I get in start up allow to warm up a few minutes, plunk down in "D" and it seems like it starts out in 2nd gear? If I ease it along it will shift into 3rd and then OD, etc normally. However, when I come to a stop it starts out again like its in 2nd gear.
Here's where it gets more interesting, while I'm at a stop if I place the gear selector in "1" and take my food off the brake it acts like its in reverse and a forward gear and won't move? Also if Im on a hill (front down or back down doesn't matter) and have it in "1" if I take my foot off the brake it won't move at all = like the brake is on? If I step on the go pedal in this mode it will struggle to move forward, but I don't push it to try, placing the gear selector in "D" will get me going in 2nd again. Now if I'm moving slowly, while in this 2nd gear phenomena, and place the selector in "1" it acts like the brake is being applied, I've not let this continue and place back in "D" and there I am again in 2nd gear whatever mode?
When this happened last week I pulled into a parking lot, shut it off and let it sit a minute then restarted and all was well? This was the first time I did a shut down and restart after this has happened, before I'd just get home and forget about it and the next day/time I went somewhere it was fine? It hasn't happened again since. This occurs very intermittently and with no regard for if eng/trans is at operating temperature or cold, outside temperature or rain/dry conditions.
I service the trans every year, or 12k miles. The only problem I ever had since it was DTT'ed (circa 2004?) was a solenoid and transducer went south (probably 2 years ago) which once replaced was all good. When these items went bad it "didn't like to shift" out of low, but you could make it by letting off the go pedal at like 2300 rpms and then it would act fine till you came to a stop and it would stay in low until repeating the higher rpm trick. The solenoid and transducer replacement were recommended by the good folks at DTT based on this description.
I'm placing this here to see if anyone else has ever had this happen. I look forward to replies and will post back if I happen to get around to calling DTT so you all know what the deal was/is.
