What line pressures can an auto trans tolerate before certain stock seals in the trans fail? What size and type gauge is best to test these pressures? I think the test post is in the side of the drivers of the trans? In short I bought a kit to install in the trans to boost pressure but I do not want to risk blowing any seal with to high line pressure. When I bought the kit I made it known that I did not want to remove the trans then when I get the instructions they say remove and install this seal. Thanks for any help brian mallory p. s. 2001 truck

brian i have seen pressures as high as 150psi at wide open throttle . pressure all depends on what the kit you bought tells you to do .

as far as the seal , what seal is it ? nothing says you have to replace it .

the port to check line pressure is on the pass side of the trans , there are 3 right on the side , you want the center one , its 1/8 npt , get yourself a 10 ft long hose and a gauge that is at least 0-150 psi . line pressure will only show there in D , check pressure while driving down the road . maybe take a helper to look at the gauge while you drive .

Thanks for the advice. The seals are the front clutch inner and outer lip seals, and pump stator sealing rings. The kit gives two pressure relief springs to install along with a shim. Final pressure relief adj. sayes to adjust screw 3 c. cw. turns from flush but gives no pressure specs to check. I wish I had just saved my money for something like a reworked v. b. but I do like doing my own mods. sometimes. thanks brian
