Attention: TDR Forum Junkies I read about a dozen threads on what a mess it is to drop the pan and change ATF without a plug in the pan. I was all set to make the mess when I found an easy way.
After removing the bolts from the front of the pan and loosening the bolts along the sides (some fluid showered in the the drain-pan) I slipped a 1/4 inch vinyl tube into the gap between the pan and trans and started a siphon -- 10 minutes later the transmission pan was pretty much empty and was a snap to lower.
I should have put a threaded plug in... . maybe next time.
