On Thursday I picked up my new '04 3500 QC SLT SRW 4x2. This is some piece of equipment. I really like this truck.

When I was looking for a new truck I noticed that on some window stickers the auto. trans is listed as 48re. And if I recall correctly, the price was around $1,000. I also noticed that on some window stickers the auto. trans was shown but without the 48re designation. My window sticker shows Four - Speed Automatic Transmission $695. 00. I checked the tag in the glovebox and there are two lines on the trans. One reads - DGB Trans A11 4 Spe. The next line reads DG8 Trans 4 spd. aut.

I'm just curious as to what trans. I have. I was under the impression that the only auto with the CTD was the 48re.

As a side note, I asked the salesman about the trans and he told me that it was a Mercedes trans. He was a great guy to deal with but I had to tell him that I didn't think so. As far as aI knew, they were all Dodge 48re trans. with the CTD.

Thanks

All 04 are the 48re and HO( there are some states that I think still had SO but Fl should have HO). 03 was SO/47Re then 03. 5 HO/48Re became available.

Beats me. Picked up my '04. 5 today; both the invoice and the window sticker read "Four Speed Automatic Transmission". Doesn't say 47RE or 48RE like it used to. The codes in the glove box are DG8 and DB8, and the sticker price is $1,095 and the invoice price is $964. It's odd that two different window stickers would have different prices; my wife bought a new Plymouth Acclaim in '94, and the car had two windows stickers laying on the back seat. Both read identical to the letter, but one had a higher price for the motor than did the other. Anyway, I'm sure it's a 48RE...

Eguipment code for the 48RE is DG8 Invoice=964 MSRP=1095. I'm positive the only option for a HO Auto was the 48RE, I'm sure you got it, but maybe you paid for the DGB.

I checked the window sticker which is in front of me now. The optional equipment is as follows: Leather $1425 - Sport App. Grp. $865 - Trlr Tow Grp $275 - Four-Speed Automatic Trans $695 - Pwr Fold Trlr Mirrors $80 - Destinat. Chg $ 795. With the base price, everything checks. What I can't figure out is why my trans was $695. 00.

Robert:

I'm not sure what differences you are talking about but I did ID the trans and found the following numbers.

Hand written with chalk are the numbers 096AA and 3G4.

Then there is one bar code lable with the following: 52854 097AA 102206 1 A5 B3 09/03/03 20: 37

The 2nd. bar code lavle reads: New Process Gear 44592 P52854097AA AV761062

On the pan it reads: Use reuseable gasket 02464324AC

oil pan 52118780AD

I appreciate all the responses from you fellow members. Thank you

My Trailor Tow Mirrors were supposed to be $80, but instead they're listed as $45- ($40- invoice). They paid me $40 to take them :p I guess it all depends on the base model, and what extras you throw into the mix...

all the auto's are from the local plants here. and under contract with cummins to mate the engine to our trans if it is ordered with the auto. the benz design transmission is being built here at the new ITP2 plant and is a 5 speed ,and not a h-d trans.
