I'm starting my investigations into rebuilding the 48RE into a towing capable monster. So far, I've had no issues with the stock transmission. However, I'm concerned it could "go" at any time. Bill at Source Automotive told me I will see the temps go north before something bad happens, but we go RV'ing all Summer long and I dont want any issues away from home. I want to be able to pull any grade in OD while towing the 11k 5er and I want to play with the Smarty on higher levels. I don't tow with Smarty currently.
I've been to Source Automotive in Milwaukie, OR and talked to Bill for quite a while about my needs for the truck. He is working with me and is a great source of info and knowledge. He would be setting me up with a Dunrite Triple Disk TC for up to 600hp, new billet input shaft and flex plate, new frictions (not sure of brand yet), Dunrite VB and Mag-Hytec DD pan or my existing PML single deep pan. He seems to know his stuff and his trans tech seems really knowledgeable and helpful too.
If I'm going to spend that kind of $$$, I want to know if anyone has had any issues with Source Automotive or Dunrite parts.
Can you recommend any other shop in the Portland area so I can get some quotes and talk to them also?
Thanks,
Louis
