I had my auto trans rebuilt by dodge under warranty at 24K miles and after getting the truck back had a BD valve body and presure lock installed(Bill K was with BD back then and very helpful). I have been changing the fluid/filter at 12K intervals although the fluid always looked like new and my temp gauge has never read over 200 degrees even on hot days when I rarely tow my 5th wheel. Everything has been working great, well until this week. I notice now that the shifts are much softer and the TC does not lock up unless it is coaxed my letting off the throttle almost completely. RPM's go up but truck moves slow and boost doesn't build as fast, something is slipping.

After checking underneath I noticed the acutator shaft for the presure lock had come off. It did this once before and simply re connects but fixing it did not restore normal operation.

I have talked with Bill K. and am going to check presures this weekend with a gauge and going to drain the pan and check for debris. This problem has happened so quickly without any warning it seems to me like something simple might be the problem. At only 64K on the truck and all the preventive measures I have taken it should not be time yet for a rebuild or new trans.

Has anyone else had such problems? I could really use some more opinions before the truck goes into a shop where I know they will want to sell me a new trans.

Many Thanks and Happy New Year. RogerLed

You might be getting a code{trans-over pres gov circut}something like that. Mine did it from new and so does this BD valve body. This is one of BILLS valve-body"Sand I know because it is one of the early ones. They have made many updates since. Awhile back there was a thread that explained a resitor that you put in on a certain pin #. That cured mine. I was getting 2-3 gear starts and it is hard to tell running empy on the flatland with the cummins. It's an easy cheap fix. This resistor can be sourced from BD or BILL. Hope this helps.

Been there and done that

I had the limp mode problem when the valve body was first installed, if it wasn't for the great PR and help that Bill gave me from BD I would have given up. At that time they were not encouraging the use of the dropping resistor and we ended up swapping valve bodys several times before the problem went away. I had to add a resistor later on after Dodge didsome work on the shift linkage and kick down cable, it has been fine for a long while.

I have all 1-2-3 and OD gears the shifts are soft and if I really put the hammer down RPMS shoot up but truck moves slow. I also noticed the transmission temp jumped up very quick by 30/40 degrees then dropped just as fast after I got off of it.

I drained some fluid out the pan this weekend and no debris except some fine metal on the magnet/plug. From what Bill said I can only conclude that when the presure lock came apart the transmission might have seen a spike in presure that blew out the vulnerable Lip Seal. I did not find a gauge to measure presure but my guess it is low and the cause of the slipping. Hopefully it hasn't caused any damage and can be repaired.

Has anyone lost partial presure from a blown seal or pump? Thanks for the reply. RogerLed

Not a blown seal, just the wrong seal ( larger id in a seal groove machined too deep from factory). the seal problem was suposed to have been fixed in the 98 or 99 model with a smaller id seal but the old style seals still show up in 2k and 2k1 trucks. This allows fluid to leak by seal ( spelled low pressure on the 3rd gear clutch pack ) even though the mainline pessures are normal. It takes some miles before the problem rears it ugly head

DC will not stand behind the wrong seal on a bombed transmission, I doubt they would know the diff between the right seal and the wrong one any way. About . . 015 to . 020 in the id of the seal, od is the same.
