I have an 04 3500 with some engine mods and now I am looking to do some work to the trans. I know that I want to change the torque converter for sure, is there a lot to be gained by rebuilding and replacing and upgrading the valve body. My truck has 40k and I drive it every day pulling 10k+ at least once a week. I do not want to do anything that will screw up the reliability of my truck. Any suggestions?

Call DTT and speak to Bill. 1-866-504-4002. There are other companies out there, do your research, ask questions. DTT is my preference, I looked at all, installed most, stuck with DTT. Thirty years as a certified transmission builder helped me make the decision. If I can answer any questions, email me. Good luck.

In my opinion I would go with the converter and valve body. In my case I chose ATS mainly because I was fighting slippage in the lockup clutch and that is their strong point - their converter absolutely will not slip. The valve body got me better shifts, ability to lock up in any gear, better driveability among other things. With most aftermarket upgrades, I believe the valve body is more or less designed to work with and enhance their particular converter. If you are spending the money anyway, I would go with at least the converter and valve body combination.

Good luck with what ever company you choose.

I would go DTT, I've pounded on my converter towing heavy and it hasent slipped ( I'm at 525 hp and 1100 tq) I like the higher line pressure that DTT does for alot of reasons!

You have to consider how many miles on current transmission,If new with low miles and in good condition than a TC/VB will work up to 390 hp and 750 ft torque,THESE ARE MAX NUMBER NOT MINIMUM'S. You will need a commander to overide the stock lockup and dis-engagement. all things consider all company's excel in different areas. I like ATS commander the most,it is operator friendly but their PIN-CONNECTOR S#^K. I still would recommend their setup.

Wish I could afford a trans upgrade from all of them. Now that would be a thread.

You should do some homework. Call the transmission Vendors and talk to them. You will get an idea of who you like and trust. For me that was Clint and his family & guys at ATS just outside of Denver. They have hundreds of affiliated shops around the country, including 3 or 4 of the very best Diesel Performance Shops in the U. S. TST Products in Columbus, Ind. is one of them--they are not too awful far from you. But if you don't want to drive that far I bet they have somebody good a lot closer. If you want to call ATS here's the # 800-949-6002

One of the benefits with ATS is that you can upgrade in stages. If your trans is relitively low-mileage you can get just the T. C. & Valve Body, and those will give you a heck of an improvement.

I went ATS all the way I tow a 15000# toy hauler and I love the way the tranmission and tripple lock conveter works, shifts are great and trans temps are around 180 on 7% grades. Clint and the rest of the guys are great to deal with. WILDMAN

Hi phoekema,

I note from your sig: '98 3500 4x4 24v w/3. 54 axle & auto trans. Have added RV injectors from TST, ATS tripple lock converter & valve body, that you have a combination I have been studying.

What tires size/brand you running and what kind of empty MPG do you get for the average metro type driving? (50/50 jerk 'n herk plus freeway)

Tnx,

John

installed a goerend bros tc in a 02 ,works great and comes with lifetime warrantee cost 300 bucks more than the b-d I had in my 02.

I would give ATS a call.

I have been running their product for over 2 years now.

Their Triplelok converter cannot be beat!
