Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) auto trans

yesterday the 2001 had no 1st gear, got home checked fluid and it is brown and smells burnt, today truck has 1st gear and no others, tried manually shifting no luck 1st only, How bad have I got it?This truck has 58k and is a daily driver with some summer time towing of our trailer
