The other day I drove a 2007 6. 7 w/ 6 speed auto. I was really impressed and

was curious if that 6 speed auto could adapted to my 2006 5. 9 2500 and how much would need to be changed?

The big problem is the transmission controller. The 68RFE is all computer controlled based on inputs. Need a stand alone controller and what to tap into for the feeds. Suncoast is supposedly working on a conversion package and a controller with another party.

Last I heard it wasn't ready yet.

I appreciate the info', This isn't a right now project. Guess I'll hold off on looking for a donor until suncoast figures things out. I had a 2006 GMC DRW w/duramax and allison. Loved the allison but had proplems with the duramax.

Absolutely sold on the 5. 9.

The 6 speed auto with a controller would be a great conversion. I would do it without thought if I thought it would be trouble free. Even an Ally would be great once you tweaked it.

The absence of a controller and decent support plus a $10k price tag is going to put a big damper in my enthusiasm, for either transmission. :(

What about a strong after-market 48re (and TQ converter of course) with a Gear Vendors unit? That combo should only run you $5k or so.
