I'm on an info gathering quest and want some of Bill K's goodies in the 47re but have some questions about the front pump. I was originally going to get one of his replacement trannies but am now leaning towards the TC and VB instead. Did I understand that there needs to be some front pump work done in the transmission before I can run the PacBrake setup? Is that the only difference between one of his replacement trannies and the separate hardware I am planning on?

Thanks, Steve.

Steve, you don't HAVE to have transmission work done when you change the TC and VB but it's recommended that while you have the transmission out you have updated seals put in the front drum and have the large waved snap ring replaced with a solid one. This will add to your reliability and since you have to have the trans out, it's a good time to have it done. It's also a good time to inspect the interior, band condition, clutch packs and so forth. If you are going to spend the money for a better TC and VB you might as well spend a little more and do a lot to increase your reliability and durability.

Yep, I did a little searching and reading before I bought mine. And there were a lot of threads around here where guys have recommended doing the seals and that at the same time. Some learned the hard way. Did just the TC/VB and were back in the shop a short time later, getting it done.

So spend a little more, and save a lot, get the TC, VB, and the approriate upgrade kits. Clutch packs if needed. Consider a pan if you can afford it along with the rest.
