GMC 2500, Car Clunkers to Avoid

How much should an alternator and battery be?

Didn't know where to posts this so. . .

My wife's truck is a 99 Dodge 1500 Reg Cab SB 4x4 Sport. I'm trying to indentify the trans for replacment parts such as a trans pan, gasket and filter. I'm getting mixed signals from various parts outlets as to which automatic transmission it has in it. I'm stuck between what I think would be a 44RE or a 46RE. Does anyone have any insight as to which transmission it would have? VIN #1B7HF16YXXS182843

Thanks,

Phil

If the pan looks like your 47re it is a 46re in the 1500. The pan is smaller at the dipstick for the 44re.

Most likely it has a 46 re in it.

I was thinking it was a 46re until I entered the vin at a Dodge vin# check website. That said 44??? I think I'll post a picture tomorrow and see what you think. I need a photo/diagram for a comparision between the diff Dodge trans pans. I mean when you look at a GM 350 and 400 trans they are noticably different.

The difference is at the dipstick area. That is the difference in the pan. The 44re, or small case is different inside too.

most places where you get a filter and gaskets have both gaskets with it.

I would suspect that the 46re was use in 2500's with the V8 and V10 but could of been standard in the 1500's also.

In the 96 service manual they have a 42re section which I would guess were the 1500,s but don't know if they were used with the v-6 or v-6 and v-8.

Thanks for the replies. I just talked to Jerry at Mag-Hytec for a pan gasket for my Double Deep pan on my 02. He said the gasket for the 1500 ( 44, 46) is the same as the 47re in my 02 so I ordered parts from him to suit my needs. Jerry is a good guy if you ever need any Mag-Hytec covers.
