Good Morning all,

This is my first time in changing the transmission fluid on my D250. Is there anything special I need to have before I drop the pan. Also how can I tell what kind of auto transmission I have.

Thanks in Advance

Brad

Brad,

You have an A518, which is basically a 727 with overdrive. Fill in your signature with info about your truck. I got your '93 year from searching your previous posts. ;)

Aloha,

Matt

Nothing special to do. Just drop the pan, change filter, reinstall pan and fill as needed. If you want, and it hasn't been done, you could adjust bands.

While you have the pan down adjust the bands. The low/reverse band is inside of the pan. The 2nd gear band is in the side of the case in front of the shift linkage.

Thanks for all the great info!!!

I will make a signature.

I did notice on the Gear Selection Linkage that all the bushings are worn. Does anybody know where I can get a complete set of these bushings.

Aslo, where can I get a Pan with a drain plug.

Thanks again!!!

Brad

Brad, Genos Garage has them, I'm sure there are other places. If you currently have a cork or fiber gasket, get a Dodge gasket. It's a rigid rubber one with a raised bead all around the edge and bolt holes. They are surprisingly cheap for a dealer part. I have reused mine 3 times, which means it is on it's 4th usage.

The last two times I changed my transmission fluid and filter, I bought my replacement filter from NAPA. Both times the pan gasket did not fit ( 2 gaskets in the same box, both wrong). Might ought to have a tube of Red Silicone gasket maker handy if you don't have a spare ride.

I did two transmission services while I had my '92, and I never did one before that--it's really easy. I would suggest installing a drain plug while you have the pan out, and possibly find someone with a 2nd gen truck (94-2002) who bought a Mag-Hytec and is willing to part with their stock pan cheap. It's a little bigger than the stock pan for the 1st gens.
