The automatic transmission in my 99 2500 Dodge Ram diesel is reving in first and second gear and will only shift when I take my foot off the gas. Than it will shift fine up to highway speed and runs at 70 MPH fine. Any ideas as to what might cause this. It just started doing this today. It was fine yesterday with no other warning signs. Thanks, Keith

There are a few things that could be wrong, but the down shift lever broke in my transmission and would only shift from from first to third if I let up on the accelerator and skip second altogether. Just a thought.

Is that verified with a scanner or jus tthe check engine light?

It could be the speed sensor on the trans, or the two items I mentioned above, which are on the VB.

Clean your battery terminals. My sons was like that the other day and we started looking for the loose ground. I said lets clean the neg term. and it fixed it.

Good Luck, Mine was doing the same and after cleaning battery terms, and a whole lot more, ended up being a broken front band in the transmission. Rebuild time... ?
