My 99' 2500 has 109,000. Auto Transmission is stuck in 1st gear.

THe fluid is at the proper level, its not burnt, it didnt get hot, and the trans isnt slipping.

Is it a electrical issue or the shift solenoid?

Do you have reverse? If you have reverse.

1. Governor valve ,shaft,weights or bodey damage/stuck.

2. Valve body malfunction.

3. Front servo/kickdown band damaged /burned.

Stuck in low gear.

1. throttle linkage misadjusted /stuck.

2. Gear shift linkagfe misadjusted.

3. Governor/valve body, Governor valve sutck closed: Loose output shaftsupport or governor housing bolts, leaking seal rings or valve body problem (ie. , stuck 1-2 shift valve/gov plug. )

4. Governor component electrical fault.

5 Front band out of adjustment.

6. Clutch or servo malfunction.

From 96 service manual 46/47 re.

I would start with the easy stuff first like throttle linkage and front band adjustment.

A reputable Trans. shop can diagnose the problem and tell you the cost to fix it. Look to see if the shop is a member of ASE. My 98 12v wiped out the torque converter at 35k. I got a Sun Coast torque converter (Fort Walton Beach FL) shipped to the shop and they installed it and altho I don't tow over 5,000 I have not had a problem. The torque converter probably is not your problem but it will be. They are a cheap sheet metal stamping and the one from Sun Coast is machined from a solid billet and has 40% more clutch area. Dodge tried to save a buck by not using a beefed up tran. They used the same one designed in 1960. I heard a lot of guys say 35k was all you could get so it appears you have been lucky.
