I've noticed lately that my automatic transmission doesn't want to shift out of first gear. I'll be around 2100 rpm, take my foot off the gas to let the rpm's drop down and then apply fuel. At that point she'll drop into the next gear.

This is intermitent but is beginning to happen more often. This only happens with first gear going into second. It doesn't matter if she's in O/D or not and the trans fluid level is at the full mark.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Make sure the kick down cable is not sticking, but most likely it is a valve sticking or a sensor going bad.

transmission

it could also be the govenor solenoid and transducer on the valve body. Have you ever changed your fluid and how many miles are on the truck?

You can get new ones on ebay very reasonable. over $125 for both at dealer.

If this behavior couples with not wanting to start out in 1st gear when cold, then it is a dead ringer.

72k

72k miles is where mine acted up.

In my case, I think the person had also used dexron before I bought it. Did not have particular acrid smell unique to chryslers new fluid. ATF+4

I am experiencing a similar problem.

Mine won't shift unless you stomp on the throttle and it will shift once it hits red line.

Took the truck to a trans shop they replaced some solenoids and transducers. The problem is not as bad but still happens on occasion.
